100 Word Story: The Alley

The torturous heat and putrid stagnant air was eerie and sickening as I cut through the alley.  The smell of rotting garbage carried by steam emitted from god-knows-where had me second-guessing my choice of shortcuts.

Halfway through my journey the sound of a shrieking cat and the tipping of a trash can startled my nerves…I jumped.  Spinning around I caught a fast moving shadow streak across the alley.

I had enough I thought, turning and running for my life back to the relative safety of the crowded thoroughfare. Saving a few seconds travel certainly isn’t worth risking it all.

Muddled Thoughts And Sour Mood

Muddled thoughts and sour mood,

So unlike for me to brood.

.

What and why I do not know,

Whilst I wait for it to go.

.

Twist of fate or slight of hand,

Either one would sure be grand.

.

To cheer me up and make me smile

Releasing me from this cursed trial.

.

But alas today it seems to be

Another day without much glee.

.

Clouds of pitch and torrential rains

Dampen my spirit and fog my brain.

.

Sure I know this too shall pass

For gloom this dark cannot last.

.

Until then most sullen I’ll be,

Awaiting the key that sets me free.

The sounds of nature

Ominous in the darkness

Fear of the unknown

Shadowy Mountain

Shadowy mountain

Pressed against the moonlit night

Lonesome cries echo

Who is so drenched in sorrow

That their tears will not subside

Solitary howl

A distant screech cracks the dark

Both eerie and sad

I kneel in prayer for solace

And the coming light of day

Angels And Demons

Angels and Demons

Share in this magical place,

This world of man.

What lies between us and them

Is a thin vail disguised as faith.

The faithless believe

There is no God, no Heaven,

There is no Hell, no darkness,

No Lucifer, no Angels,

No war between good and evil,

But they are just fooling themselves.

Call upon them, will them into the light

And they will surely make their presence known.

Look out your window, read the news,

Remember your best and worst dreams,

You will see the unseen at work.

Deny they exist if you must,

But know they live,

Just beyond the reach…

Of your five mortal senses.
