The Spark Extinguished

The spark extinguished,

There is no kindling to reignite the flame.

Light as air, the ash is blown to the four winds

Until nary a trace can be found.

What proof is there that it ever really existed

That it belonged to this dimension.

Attempts to congeal fail

As the miniscule journey ever farther afield.

Their mark on this world, nil in the eyes of many,

Insignificant and unimportant,

This would be wrongly assumed.

We would not know this place without them,

So intertwined is all matter

That without the most minute speck

Life would be forever altered from this reality.

There is nothing insignificant or unimportant,

From the lowly ash and graceful dragonfly

To the mighty elephant and the whole of mankind,

Everything visible and invisible is the perfect creation…

Under Heaven.

From Dusk Until Dawn

From dusk until dawn

I live in dreamless torment

Cold–black is my night

Where do I go in slumber

When I am invisible

I can’t remember

My travels have been wiped clean

This terrifies me

Is this what death will be like

A blackboard erased from time

Scavenging

Scavenging,

Through trash bins,

Rubbish heaps,

Loitering beyond alley doors,

Waiting for “the good stuff”.

Jagged nails,

Through fingerless gloves,

Sort through treasures,

Maybe a doughnut,

Scrap of bread,

Half eaten burger,

A meal fit for a king.

Seen on steam grate mattresses,

Fetal curl for warmth;

Passersby arc wide birth

To avoid their touch.

Rain draws trash bag slickers,

Doorways, cardboard,

Rags for umbrellas,

Taxi’s thrown sludge sprays the invisible

With cities dirt and grim.

Will they be here tomorrow?

Will anyone notice their absence?

As their shopping cart sits idle

Ravaged by fellow unseen.
