Shadowy Creatures

Shadowy creatures

Thrive in absolute darkness,

What is it they seek?

Are they feasting on my fears

Or do they desire blood?

Real or imagined

They torture me just the same.

This…my illusion

Has become reality,

Whether I like it or not.

The mind truly can

Be such a terrible thing…

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Imagination is…

Inspiration for the painter’s brush,

Muse for the writer’s quill,

Angst for the actor’s role,

Gas for the engine of invention,

Irreverence to the twisted of mind,

Nuance for the singers song,

Ability for those challenged,

Tenacity in the hearts of the weak,

Ingenuity in the hands of the creative,

Omniscience in the eyes of the faithful,

Nobility in the lives of the insignificant,

…And so much more.

I Long For Silent Sleep

I long for silent sleep
Where dreams take holiday
And nightmares cower in their tombs.
Oh how I have prayed for the abolition of my demons
Banishing them back to Hell,
But I am weak and afraid.
They claw at me in my waking hours
And draw blood in my slumber.
I am but a frightened child
Bowing to their every whim.
To fight them can only encourage pain,
A pain suffered more than once o’er’ these many years.
So I deny the monsters that haunt me;
Pretending that all is well
While I await their next onslaught.

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Ghosts are haunting me

Are they real or imaged

What does it matter

Things long dead keep appearing

Wanting to rejoin this life

This can’t be allowed

The past must be left buried

Buried forever

Like the fate of all dead things

To rest in peace–eternal

Do Not Cower in Darkness (Cyclical Rubaiyet)

Do not cower in darkness, in this imaginary fear

The black is nothing but starkness, in one’s own mind my dear

A thing of fairytales and nursery rhymes and legends of all kinds

Impotent in daylights harshness, our worries disappear

Oh…the tricks and fears we dream with our active mind

No matter how many tears we cry there are always more to find

Dry your eyes my little one, for none of this is real

As daylight wanes, evening nears, dreams and nightmares intertwined

Time will tell that all is well, for I know quite how you feel,

Bedtime comes to room you dwell, to God you pray and kneel

With deepest hope your wishes and dreams most in earnest hear

Before you know as parent this same to your own children heal

AUTHORS NOT: This poem was inspired and modeled after the Persian Rubaiyet form introduced to me by Jen over at Blog It or Lose It, please check out her blog, I think you will enjoy it.

Black of Night – A Tanka

Steeped in black of night

Dangers lurk in the shadows

Like things of nightmares

Evil and malevolent

Though certainly spurious

White noise

Distorting my senses

Images like flashbacks fill my mind

Thoughts, past, present and future

Blur the lines between fantasy and reality

Sanity or insanity

Who is to say which is which

Its difficult to tell anymore

Dreams materialize in painful rushes of sound and color

Awake…No rest, can’t sleep

Unfolding into vivid nightmares

They seem so real

Glimpses of my innermost fears

Each breath becomes more labored

Struggling to claw back to consciousness

I can feel the blood pulsing through my veins

Rapid, it battles to sustain me

The pounding in my head clouds my vision

Strong burnt coffee the medicine

Nerves steady…Fog recedes

Jarred back to life  by the caffine

Another day of subsistence

Endeavoring to crawl out of the darkness

Alone and lonely.
