Separate Lives Together

We live,

Separate lives together.

Sharing a roof,

A bed.

Lying back to back.

Void of touch,

Good night

Whispered to an old friend,

Settling for the mundane.

Waking hours,

Life lived apart,

Turmoil of the day,

Work, stress, aggravation,

Too tired to talk.

Meals,

Separate ends of the couch,

Silence for company.

Clink of fork and knife,

White noise,

Breaking tense solitude.

Grown apart,

Here for convenience,

Home, cars, bills, children.

Chains,

Anchors to this hell,

Repetitive, repulsive, depressing,

Loneliness consumes,

Leaving no way out,

Stuck,

In separate lives…

Together.

A sad way to live. I think this is not far from the truth for many – especially those that tend to stick together for the sake of what others may think because of their religion or culture.

True and it is sad that people stay together for that reason, but we here that it happens over and over again.

    Happens all too easily.

Thank you very much, fortunately it isn’t personal experience, but I do know that it happens more frequently than couples willingly admit.

I can understand this – in more ways than i care to reflect upon. On a lighter note, I had the tune Separate Lives playing in the back of my head – Phil Collins duet with Marilyn Martin (i think this is her name) from the soundtrack to the movie White Nights.

Well I’m sure Phil’s duet was much better than the poem. There is a talented guy. I also wish that no one had this happen to them. I’m sure that it is a miserable way to live.

Love the honesty Dom. So well spoken. This was my life years ago.

Thank you Eileen, I appreciate it very much and I glad that you like the poem. I certainly hope things are better for you now.
