Do Words Affect Change

Do words affect change

Cause joy, pain, devastation

Linger in silence

Long after they’ve been uttered

Encouraging further thought

Is life made better

Uncertain futures improved

Or are they just words

Sounds vibrating through the air

Ink purposefully strewn

Blotting out the white

Filling meaningless canvas

Do words affect change

I certainly think they do

Or all of this is for naught

I suppose they do, but sometimes not for the better I’m afraid. :)

Nice poem Dom… I’ve been pondering the power of words lately… especially in terms of effecting change…

I wonder about this all the time. Does what we write really matter, I suppose that it does if it affects even one person in a positive way. I don’t think I could stop writing anyway even if I tried.

Definitely. Words forge the world we live in.

I like to think so or at least I hope so. I have to keep the faith.

i totally agree – words make a lasting impression and yes, they can affect change. sometimes for the better and sometimes, not so. i do believe our words will live on. i know mine will – through my boys:)
