December Seventh (Tanka)

December Seventh
Pearl Harbor was attacked
Do they still teach this
Or has it been lost to years
And the holiday season
.

Well, fortunately for the movie, it may still be remembered. Glad you reminded us so eloquently:)

When I lived in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu….
December 7th was definitely remembered each year.

I guess because it hit so close to home for the people of Hawaii, no pun intended. I am glad that they remember, I think it is important.

I’m terrible with dates, but it is a shame this gets absorbed into the holiday season.

I know, it seemed to get forgotten completely and yet it was such an important event in our history.

I was just saying the same thing – I don’t think much attention was paid to it this year by the media – the kids don’t really get what happened and how it changed everything. Nice poem

Thank you very much Pam, I guess things just fade from our memories whether it is right or wrong although in this case I think it is wrong.

Thank you Jen, I know that I still remember, the view of the U.S.S. Arizona memorial brings it home for me every time.

I like this! I believe there are many crucial events in history that are not being teached anymore.

I agree and I find it to be a shame, I think we lose some of our identity when this happens.

I will admit I am a bit out if touch. All I have heard of is Mr. Mandela’s death I have been off the computer for almost two days and the only thing on television is silly xmas movies and football. Oy. I never forget. My grandfather was in the army corps of engineers and was sent to Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack. To help rebuild. His bday would be 12/15.

See you remember, sadly though many people don’t and I find it a shame. :)

My son knows about this because he is a big history buff. The girls know about this because of tv & we told them. I asked if they talked about this in school & they said no. The conversation came up because I asked them if they knew why their flag at school & everywhere else was at half staff.

My kids didn’t know what the day was until I told them, another failure of our educational system, it is very sad. I guess it is up to us to remind and/or educate them on these important dates that have been swept aside.
