Judge, jury, executioner,
We decide the fate of the smallest of lives,
Crickets, mice, the common house fly, the family pet
Playing god with those we deem less significant.
Who handed us the gavel?
Who gave us the plunger of the lethal injection?
Who gave us the power to determine when a life will end?
We dole out this punishment with little thought
All because we call them pests
Or we don’t want them to needlessly suffer,
But this is not our role in this world.
Shouldn’t we allow them to transition in their own time?
We all have a time,
You, me, the cricket, them mouse, the house fly, the family pet,
One that will bring the end with or without intervention,
Though not determined by our hands.
…The sanctity of life.

I’d agree if only house flies didn’t enjoy buzzing my face while I slept. I call that a declaration of war. Why do insects seem to pounce on a person’s face anyway?
That is a great question, I don’t really know why they are attracted to the face other than the fact that there are openings such as the nose, ears and mouth for them to lay their larvae in, just a guess. Now that I say this it really isn’t very appealing. 🙂
I heard with mosquitoes that they’re attracted to carbon dioxide. Probably because following a trail of that will lead them to an animal with blood. No idea for flies and moths though. Hope the larvae things isn’t right since I just ate.
Sorry, I don’t have any proof that what I said is even true…just speculating. 🙂
Well said, sir. Peace . . .
Thank you very much my friend. 🙂
Clever. I am one to save many creatures but there are a few creepy crawleys that freak me out. Next time I will reconsider;). Can I call you to come over and take care of it?
Oh sure, most things don’t scare me, I may avoid them if they can be dangerous to my health, but otherwise I can handle most things. 🙂
