Humanity lost
Our dignity up for sale
What little is left
Elected to destroy us
By the uninformed
More sad than ever
I fear our future
You will see what you have done
By supporting these devils
Schools will be sold for profit
Security privatized
Healthcare back in greedy hands
This is what you chose
You gullible Red Foxes
Believing the spin
Selling your best interests
For six long years full of lies
I hope you’re happy
For now our children suffer
At your bloody hands
Left to live worse than you did
Goodbye American Dream

Anyway, I am so honored that you nominated me, you have no idea how much that means to me as we have been reading each others work for quite some time. I do however, hope that you will not be offended, but I have not been accepting awards for almost two years now. I love that you think enough of my writing to read it.     It´s always good to express your opinions just as well as respect others that don´t think like me or don´t think like you. Plus I found out that getting angry at what others might say or think or say or thing about what I say it´s quite a waste of my time. Keep giving me that writing to read. I do learn from you guys.

Good Sir I must know, what has you feeling so-so,
You say six long years is part of our humanity and American dream lost,
But I don’t know who you say is the guilty so and so,
Perhaps you could point them out, historically speaking we’re living in the most peaceful of times in World’s history.

  America has been at war for well over ten years now so as a country we have not been at peace for a very long time. Our midterm elections have just concluded and in many states the average citizen voted (this is my opinion only) for candidates that are opposite to their own best interests. Our elections, as I’m sure elections in many other countries, have been disproportionately influenced by the very wealthy through deceitful means. To name a group I would place much of the blame on, would be our Republican Party although our Democratic Party is by no means innocent of wrong-doing. Of course this is purely my opinion, but I think that we as a nation are on a downward spiral which is only going to accelerate in the coming years if the people don’t put some kind of end to it. Anyway, thank you for reading my writing I really do appreciate it.

Wow. Dom, this is such an immensely powerful poem.Once, again, you say so much in as few words as possible. Strong imagery, the depth of disappointment, frustration and anger~this is everything good poetry should do.It makes you think but it also makes you feel.Well done.Bravo!

  That is really nice of you to say Emily. I’m really disappointed in these past elections, I don’t think that many people realize what they have done. I never understand when people vote against their own best interests and I think that we will see that they have or maybe I’m just too pessimistic.

    I sadly must say,
    I don’t think its pessimism. It sounds pretty accurate of the current whiplash against our President Obama. This often happens on both sides of the political coin. One party gets elected into the Oval office then the opposite party gains control of the house or senate. It leaves us with gridlock. People do not understand. Political ads can be very misleading. Especially if someone is not well educated or well informed. It is very disheartening on both sides. With gridlock affecting congress the President cannot do his job, that he was elected for. Everyone places blame on both sides. I myself, am a liberal minded democrat. I believe that government should provide goods and services. That the wealthiest 1% should have higher taxes because their have higher earnings. My ideas are far fetched and unpopular. But I think the country needs bipartisanship more than anything. All the bickering does nothing to solve our most serious issues. This election bummed me out too, but i saw it coming. It’s the backlash effect. Sorry for the sermon!!

    I agree with you and I think that we are of the same mind when it comes to government. The election bummed me out too, but I at least went through the effort to read up on the candidates that were presented and though none of them were even close to ideal I attempted to make an educated choice. Unfortunately so many people don’t and because of this we wind up with what we have now. No, the president is not perfect and no, I don’t agree with everything he has done, but there have been some very good things he has done and decisions he has made that if you listen to Fox news as your source of information you will hear about in a very negative and distorted way. This by no means excuses the Democrats either, they have “talking heads” on their side too that are blind to the problems with his administration. The division in this country has as much to do with the Republicans and Democrats as it does with the our corporate media. I guess the bottom line is that I am disgusted with our political system as a whole and it needs to be changed. I’m tired of being presented with candidates who simply do the bidding of their parties instead of standing for the needs and desires of their constituents. Our corrupt two party system really needs to go. Sorry and thanks for letting me rant.

    Your “Rant” as you put it has more to do with common sense than any lunatically rantings and ravings. If it were up to me, we would adapt more of a socialistic government than the capitalist al la faire b.s. going on for decades, and centuries.
    Btw Dom, i voted too. I walked 1.5 miles in the windy cold to do so. My hubby picked me up afterwards. Voting is both a privilege and a right. So surprising so few Utilize the right to vote.

    I know this reply is very late, sorry about that. I’m with you, I think our capitalist republic has gone completely off-the-rails. It no long looks after the interests of the people, but instead sells itself off to the highest bidder. An injection of some socialism into our government would be a wonderful thing. Socialism, and communism for that matter, in their purest sense are wonderful concepts, but like anything else, once you get corporations and money involved they go into the crapper. Thanks Emily, I love these discussions. I hope that you are doing well. :)
