The Christmas Light Slowly Dims

The Christmas light slowly dims

     As joy’s illusions fade

Back to a world cold and grim

     A fond goodnight it bade

Try as I might to keep the spirit

     Darkness bolts the door

Come Holy Night each year I fear it

     My psyches ghostly whore

This sadness black torments my soul

     On every Christmas eve

I beg for mercy God fill this hole

So my heart no longer grieves

Heavenly Sun Wanes

Heavenly sun wanes,

Applauded by dusk’s silence…

Ovation of gods!

Cherished by the lowliest,

Taken for granted by man.

~

Without any thought,

We reap her fruitful bounty

With veracity.

~

An ungrateful child

Would offer her greater thanks…

Yet we laud her not.

Perhaps it’s human nature

Or maybe we’re simply fools.

Waters Grow Cold

Waters grow cold

As the summer sun sets.

A new season,

With holidays to warm the heart

Blossom amongst winters frost.

We give thanks

With family and friends gathered

Round our cosy tables.

An American tradition,

Too oft’ overshadowed by Christ’s Day

And corporations lust for profits.

We have bastardized all that is good

For Black Friday and our lust for deals.

Step back…is this what is important,

Are bargains and materialism

What Thanksgiving and Christmas are all about?

Look to the past,

Families enjoying the simple things

Like companionship and familial love.

This is what these holidays are about

These are what we are about.

It is not about gifts,

It is not about things,

It is about friends,

Family,

Thanks,

It is about our love for Christ and our fellow man.

NOTE: I realize that Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday are over, but I still think this piece applies to the entire holiday season.

The End Is No End

The end is no end.

Throughout life we sense the past,

A time before our time,

We call it deja vu.

We’ve been here,

We’ve met before,

But we cannot place when or where.

Is this just a sense

Or a glimpse into a time before our time.

Could we not be going round-and-round,

Traveling time until we get it right,

Coming back and back

Until we perfect our journey?

Perhaps God requires us to earn our right

To join him in Heaven,

Learning over the centuries and lifetimes

The things only time can teach.

We are flawed creatures,

Attracted to sin,

Given to the allure of its pleasures.

Like children, we must learn our lessons

Under the tutelage of God,

Before we can be admitted into His

Kingdom of Heaven.

You Non-believers

You non-believers

What will it take for you to

Realize the truth

There are things beyond this world

That none of us can explain

Demons, shadow men

Ghosts lost in between the worlds

This is nothing new

Look back to antiquity

They existed before Christ

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Alone…

Alone…

All of the friendships in the world do not change that.

Born alone,

Die alone,

No one else can do either for us,

This is as it’s always been.

Looking to God,

Looking to our family,

We look to others for comfort,

But there is nothing,

Only the comfort we find within.

We fool ourselves thinking otherwise.

Why do we look for solace in acquaintances,

Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers;

They cannot travel our journey.

In passing they cannot hold our hands.

This does not mean they do not love us,

Only that they can do nothing,

But wish us well and pray that our journey

Is something greater than a trip to oblivion.
