Could You Be Trusted

Could you be trusted,

To do the right thing,

To love thy neighbor,

Be charitable,

Work for the common good,

Protect the weak,

Temper the strong,

Care for the old,

Protect the young,

Heal the sick,

Be kind to all,

Hold your tongue,

Respect opinions,

Treat everyone as equal,

Not tread on another’s path,

Live in peace,

Love?

Could you be trusted,

I think not.

For if you could there would be no need for laws.

Laugh I Must At The Things That I Do (Sonnet)

Laugh I must at the things that I do,

Time and again the same mistakes.

Criticizing others, ignoring history true,

A hypocrite I am my own rules I break.

Claiming to know what’s right, I do it for a time,

‘Til boredom or laziness takes hold.

Then act I surprised like a criminal caught in crime,

That my hand as in poker is a fold.

When will I learn to practice what I preach,

For more than short periods of time.

Following the path that is right within reach,

From this hole I’ll not have to climb.

Perhaps human nature is the culprit in this game, a chessmaster of the supreme.

Maybe this will be the time I learn from my shame, and fortitude from this I will gleen.

Grand Plans

Grand plans, so many have I had,

Scribbled on scrap paper,

Bled onto soggy bar napkins,

Etched into the walls of my mind

As you, I’m sure have likewise done.

Isn’t this our way?

A human fault, or perhaps a gift depending on one’s perspective.

These dreams, this plan is what makes our time so glorious,

For without these, our finite period would be mundane.

I can not imagine another breath without them.

We must fuel the flames of hope, nurture our deepest desires,

Those that keep us moving forward into every new day,

Isn’t this our way?

To Speak One’s Mind

To speak one’s mind, though respectfully is our right

Not to belittle, degrade or to fight

Civilized discourse is the much desired path

As opposed to yelling, screaming and fiery wrath

~

Little is solved through righteous indignation

Ushered on through prideful inflation

To say one’s piece then give another a chance

Its likely the opinion imparted will enhance

~

To disagree is common in life I propose

But civility is preferred, surely can’t be opposed

Our differences shared spice up this world

While insults cause more harm than good when hurled

~

Opinions I’ve spoke change from day to day

Its odd how that works the minds funny that way

While I try to follow the advice offered above

Sometimes I go over the edge showing anything but love

~

I try to give heed to another’s personal views

At times I fail miserable, though not what I would choose

This is human nature, be conscious of the fact

Because once its put out there you can never take it back.
