How senseless the loss
So many leaves have fallen
Man’s icy winter
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
The breath of hatred
Resuscitates the weak man
Evil in the flesh

Confederate flag–
Symbol of our darkest time,
Human slavery.
Prideful in their ignorance
There are those still full of hate.
Don’t they understand,
There are wounds as yet unhealed–
Open and bleeding.
Each raising stings of poured salt
In an already deep gash.
I weep for their pain.
Have they not suffered enough
At your racist hands?
The shame is you don’t see it
Being blinded by false pride.

Things of dreams, of hopes,
This life I live and all that I have,
The promise of America, a ghost long dead.
Stripped of humanity, stripped of dignity, I see the pain in her eyes;
Mine tear for her, for the psychopath she has become,
She hates her children, punishing them for their ignorance.
But who is to blame, we’ve offered our souls to the Devil with each election,
Perpetuating our own destruction, more of the same does not breed change.
Perhaps I am guilty as any choosing to write as my protest.
Is my hope to inspire sufficient?
Only time will tell.

I gathered stones and pebbles
For a fortress to build,
Bulwark against the evils of this world.
Having fought them for so long
I am weary, fearing that I have no fight left in me.
My swords I’ve dulled, sharpened and dulled again
Beating back the cruelty and injustices of man
Only to have them retake territory.
This has been the history of our species;
Seek, conquer and destroy our lasting legacy.
So cocooned in my citadel I shall wait,
Quietly, patiently, until the day of reckoning,
Praying for this succession to end.

In love there is peace
No religion disputes that
Only man does this
Bastardizing all that’s good
For his own twisted purpose

Serene the gentle trickle of meandering brook,
Over pebbles smooth from run of time,
Coolness washes over these tired soles,
Filling lungs with fragrant breath.
How free the feeling of babble-chilled numbness,
Drifting north on travel weary limbs.
Entranced by suns leaf scattered dance,
Diamond shimmers twinkle like neon marquis,
Mesmerizing and comforting and invigorating,
Taking me places far, far away from this time.
So distant the bustle of city street and automobile,
Haze of industry, rubbish strewn waterways,
Man’s inhumanity to man,
The corruption of modernity.
Hearkened back to this simpler place,
Of brooks, pines, the sprawling fern,
Whitetail deer and paddle tailed beaver,
Blue jay and spotted owl,
Amongst these our spirits are freed.
