The sun, moon and stars
Watch wide-eyed in amazement
Foolishness of man

The silvery moon
Waits for heaven to call her
Mystical suitor

Crescent moon through clouds
Once shrouded in mystery
Lost to ancient times

Even the sun rests
Laying down at the end of day
Welcoming the moon
Never have they competed
Each knows its role in nature
When their time is over
They take solace in their work
And a job well done
Perhaps man could learn something
If he just paid attention

Heavenly tango
Where two lovers become one
Sun’s total eclipse

Shine on haloed moon
Over nighttime sky thou art king
Thy subjects slumber

Living amongst stars
Pulled by the sun and the moon
Child of Heaven

Do you hear their song
Baying to the lonesome moon
Coyotes crying

I’d forgotten the serenity of the vicious sea;
Her frothy mane as it spreads itself upon the shore
Gracefully stroking me, drawing me into her loving embrace.
To touch her, to feel her supple skin beneath my hands;
Soft yet strong as it glides effortlessly away from the shore,
I am captivated by her beauty.
The shimmer of her eyes blinds both sun and moon,
They are no match for her diamond soul,
Nor am I as she swallows the sun as it sets.
In dark of night I can hear her calling across her sandy expanse
The path of the moon dancing from wave to wave
Revealing how miniscule I am under heaven
Just as the grain of sand swept from shore.
I smile as if one with the earth and sea
Flowing effortlessly from here to there.
O’ how I had forgotten how beautiful the sea,
How beautiful the soul,
How beautiful and how temporary this life;
Until she reminded me of what I am.

As the moon rises and the sun bids a fond adieu,
As the final shafts of amber day fade to black,
There is a gentle stillness that overcomes earth and man,
One that’s existed since time began.
Our winged friends song falls on silent deaf ears,
Replaced by the somber tune of cricket and cicada.
The rustling of leaves ring vivid to the senses,
Once undetectable amongst the chaos of the day.
Even the lowly housefly finds solace in dusk
Vanishing from sight with nights approach.
Simple is this time where rest encroaches
Though absent of life it is not.
Those of nocturnal bend do rise,
As they live the fullest of lives amongst the shadows.
The lonesome and distant howl echoes in the night,
The song of the owl a signal to impending prey.
These embraced as a welcome tune
Sing me to sleep under starry sky.
Nature–peaceful in all its glory is my lover,
Holding me in her tender arms until we rise with the dawn,
To kiss the newest day.
