50 Word Story – Cardboard Roof

The cardboard roof does little to keep the icy rain and bone-chilling cold from compounding his pain.  Looked upon as a piece of worthless trash, he is invisible to passersby..

Perhaps if they realized they were just one paycheck away from his Hell, they’d offer him a bit more sympathy.

Shadowy Creatures

Shadowy creatures

Thrive in absolute darkness,

What is it they seek?

Are they feasting on my fears

Or do they desire blood?

Real or imagined

They torture me just the same.

This…my illusion

Has become reality,

Whether I like it or not.

The mind truly can

Be such a terrible thing…

Looking Across the Field

Looking across the field

Sun blinding me

I’m in a trance,

Mesmerized by the grassy wave.

How did I get to this place

Where so much promise lies before me,

Yet believing the best is already behind?

With each step I trample the tender shoots,

Very much like my dreams…

At one time flowing freely

Bending with the wind,

Now ground back into the earth

From which they were born.

The Spark Extinguished

The spark extinguished,

There is no kindling to reignite the flame.

Light as air, the ash is blown to the four winds

Until nary a trace can be found.

What proof is there that it ever really existed

That it belonged to this dimension.

Attempts to congeal fail

As the miniscule journey ever farther afield.

Their mark on this world, nil in the eyes of many,

Insignificant and unimportant,

This would be wrongly assumed.

We would not know this place without them,

So intertwined is all matter

That without the most minute speck

Life would be forever altered from this reality.

There is nothing insignificant or unimportant,

From the lowly ash and graceful dragonfly

To the mighty elephant and the whole of mankind,

Everything visible and invisible is the perfect creation…

Under Heaven.

What Does Heaven Know Of My Dreams

What does Heaven know of my dreams?

Maybe nothing, maybe everything,

In its silence I believe lies wisdom and strength.

Our mortal senses confuse that which is beyond physical,

Trusting nothing which we can not see.

This betrays the spirit of man.

Something far bigger than myself is my guide,

Calling me to greatness when I’m willing to listen.

In the quiet of meditation I can hear the inner voice,

Mine or God’s I do not know;

Perhaps we are one and the same.

I pray this will be revealed when I return to my origin,

The being of spirit that I was before my mortal birth.

Is Life a Vision

Is life a vision–

A dream of our creation

Like a childs game

Lived in a homemade costume

Pulled from our minds own toy box

I really don’t know

Would it be so terrible

Living a charade

So long as it makes us happy

During this finite voyage

I See You in My Dreams

I see you in my dreams;

Vivid as day, real as if this was reality.

When I awake, only then do I realize it was my mind

Playing a celluloid trick on my psyche.

Salty tears stain my cheeks,

Heart racing, body shuddering, I weep.

You were there, I was there–

I could see you,

Smell your fragrance,

Feel your touch, skin on skin–

Then you were gone, fading into oblivion.

With only a look and a smile over your alabaster shoulder;

You said nothing, your eyes said it all.

Tarnished by longing and sorrow;

Goodbye revealed in their parting glance

You vanished, I am alone.

Was this a dream or love reincarnate?

It matters not.

Either way–

I am lost without you.
