Sky obsidian
Smell of desert in the wind
Storm fast approaching
.

Overnight rain falls
Tap-dancing on the tile roof
Classic Fred Astaire
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Tiniest cricket
Seeks refuge from the storm
Symphony indoors
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Blanket overhead
Gray and low, most menacing
A storm approaches
~~Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Fickle wind doth blow
Leaving carnage in its path
Twisted metal–wood
Like a house of playing cards
Left as chaotic rubble
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Storm clouds boiling
Thunder rattling windows
Bowling for the gods
~~Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Rains cascade from the mountaintop
So fluid in its dance of desperation
Tumbling over granite shards
Impregnating the seed of the dormant bride
Soon she will welcome her offspring
Colorful and joyous
Springing from crack and crevice
To play amongst the warmth of the winds
Her groom–
Disappearing ever downward
Seeks slumber in the bed below
Having succumbed to destiny
Coyote and cacti feed from his humble remains
Quenching their arid thirst
Until at once
…He is no more
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Lightning tears the sky
Shattering heaven’s crystal
God’s fragile canvas
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Desert drawn skyward
Where the earth meets with heaven
A blanket of brown
Swallowing all in its path
Like a final curtain call
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
*Welcome to the 2014 monsoon season here in the desert southwest. Maybe we will get a little bit of rain here tonight…if we’re lucky.
Many a trip to distant shores
Seen from deck and crows nest high
I pray my return home to Aliveri
Its port, my village, my final trip
Still far from home the wind did blow
Gale ripping sails from masthead and spar
Fierce storm did brew this wretched foe
Fear contagious proving fatally toxic
Men jumping ship as we list and creak
Hull split and torn, I choke on frigid brine
I bid you farewell with great sorrow–I’m dead
~
