The storm rages on

Rivers of mud replace road

Sidewalk riverbanks

When the flash flood expires

Where does all the water go

Authors Note: This is something in the 12 years that I have lived in Arizona I have never seen before. This is a major road which runs in front of the busiest municipal airport in the country, which happens to be right outside the window of my office. This road is a total of six lanes wide, 3 going in each direction and the river of water and mud nearly met to cover the entire road. A pretty rare site in this part of the country where it is normally so dry.

  It sure is. We get flash floods here during our monsoon season, but this is the first I have seen one first hand.

It sure is a little off when you see a weather condition that’s not typical of a certain area.

  Thank you very much…and I still don’t know where all the water went. When I left the office it looked like nothing ever happened, very strange in deed.

Oh my – I am happy you are safe. Flash floods – though I have never experienced one personally, are so dangerous. Be careful. ;)

  Thank you Kimberly. I don’t know that I was in any danger, but it was amazing to watch the traffic lanes disappear as well as the sidewalks under rushing water. Very strange, I have never seen it in this area before, but I guess there is a first for everything. :)

I guess that because its normally so dry its absorbed easily!

  Actually, because the ground is so dry and rocky (what looks like sand is actually crushed granite) it is like concrete and has great difficulty absorbing any water, therefore the water tends to pool and run like rivers anywhere that it can. A rather odd thing for many parts of our country as well as the world.
