Left For Dead (Sonnet)

Flayed like road kill quivering

Unseen and left for dead

On black, cold asphalt shivering

A crack upside the head

From gaping wounds bleeding

A gasp for one last breath

The feel of life receding

Assured most certain death

The black it grows darker still

No longer knowing this place

Sounds they fade and silence fills

The whole of dying minds space

In an instant the sun shines bright

As gentle hands draw me to the light

.

You created a strong sense of resigned fear before turning it around.

Thank you Gilly, it was just a mood piece, but I thought I should end it on an up-note. :)

This is dark and frightening — with a splash of hope and peace at the end. Very well written.

Thank you, I laid awake with a couple of these lines running through my head starting at 2 am, I figured I should use them in a poem and here you have it. Insomnia at its finest. :)

Hey, better use the lines while you have them! If you’re like me you’ve probably gotten these lines in the middle of the night and figured you’d still remember in the morning… And lost a potentially good poem in the process.
        o.O

That is absolutely the case. These came to me at 2 am when I really wanted to be sleeping. :)

…. and then the debate … how tired am I? How much will I regret this in the morning?

… and then the swearing …. “#$%@ muse! You COULDN’T talk to me in the MORNING,could you??!!??”

I was not very pleasant yesterday I can tell you that, I actually was down right grouchy.

Ah, we poets suffer for our art …
… but on some days everyone around us suffers too! ;)

Isn’t that the truth, I torture my family just by being me. LOL :)

A lovely poem with many ingredients that makes it so special: deep, meaningful, shocking, reflective and hopeful. Just love it!

Thank you very much, this one came from a few lines that hit me in the middle of the night when I should have been sleeping. I really appreciate the reblog my friend. :)

Yes sometimes they can, but I seem to have them a little too often for my liking. Thank you for all of your support, I really do appreciate it.:)
