Absent Though Not Gone

Absent though not gone

A temporary reprieve

Enjoy my silence

Though unlikely to last long

I’ll be back with a vengeance

Time for regrouping

Collecting all of my thoughts

A tidy bundle

Set to explode on the page

For the world at large to see

Enjoy your vacation. Good luck regrouping your thoughts.

Thanks Charles, it really was just the weekend that I was absent, I didn’t even turn my computer on until late yesterday afternoon and then only for a few minutes. I decided instead to go for a swim and relax. I have trouble staying away for too long.

I know what you mean. Especially when you can get on-line from your phone. Makes one wonder how people would operate on a vacation that takes you away from all technology.

Actually, I would love to try that some time. I’m old enough to remember when we didn’t have computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. and we all survived just fine. I really think that these things are more of an addiction than anything else, one which is very hard to break.

Good point. Though I do enjoy being able to contact people with more ease. For me, it beats the old days of calling a house phone and waiting for someone to call back.

Agreed, I’m not saying that I would want to go back to the old days (at least not all the time), but sometimes I wonder if it is such a great thing to be “connected” all of the time. I find that being so connected interferes with vacations, my office still calls me whether I am on vacation or not, this I find really annoying. Some of it of course is my fault, I have my company email setup on both my work smartphone and my personal smartphone and I find myself checking my email right up to the point that I lay down to go to sleep every night, that can’t be healthy. Maybe being connected isn’t the problem, maybe the problem is me. :)

I fully agree. It’s like you can’t truly get away because there’s no way to escape.

There really isn’t, but I guess that is live in this modern day. :)

Thank you, this poem, like most everything for me lately was really written for my weekend break. I only turned my computer on for a few minutes yesterday afternoon and didn’t really do anything with it. I decided instead to go for a swim with my wife and kids and I never went back to the laptop. Actually it felt kind of good to take a short break. :)

That is what I wish I had done, but alas it was not to be. We all need days like that. :)
