Feelings of despair
Brought on by this hectic world,
Could our connectedness be to blame;
Glowing screens of every shape and size?
Even in sleep there is no rest
For the modern mind will not quiet.
Discerning truth from fiction is ever more daunting
With the right and left screaming for attention.
I’ve forgotten what silence is like,
No notifications, no ringing, no television
…A simpler time.
Could it be time to power off
Leaving all things electronic black and lifeless?
It’s undeniable that those times were happier,
That families talked and people listened.
We walked with our heads up and smiles on our faces
Instead of head down and into poles.
Maybe twenty four hour news, tweets and likes are a cancer
Feasting on our teetering sanity.
I am a realist, I know the past is the past
To which we will never return,
But maybe a little self imposed downtime is in order
Just for a bit of nostalgia.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Not for nostalgia, only, but to return to sanity and reflection as well …
These are just beautiful lines about a sincere and difficult topic. Well done and many thanks fo those reflections.
Greetings from Germany,
Thank you Salva, that is very nice of you to say. 🙂
I take it then that you’re a wee bit older than 25, maybe? 😉
Yes I am, double it and add 1 and you’ll have it. 🙂
Aaah, that’s more like it! 😄
Thank you, I wrote this one a while ago and thought now was as good a time as any to post it.
I’ve been away from the net for four days. Not by choice–it was a refreshing change.
That is wonderful. It is good to get away sometimes. 🙂
When people talked and listened
In these last 5 years I have taken an extreme number of time outs – because I know my mind is racing from so much input-No we cannot repeat the past however I truly know we need to re-implement some ways of the past
There certainly are some ways of the past that I agree we should re-implement, but by no means all of them. With regard to time outs, I agree that too much input just overloads the mind, I have this happen frequently. I too have taken several breaks just to clear my head and get my thoughts straight. Thank you for the thoughtful comment Niki, I appreciate it.
