  • For You

    July 27, 2013

    I bleed for you,

When you cry I cry for you,

    Tears that stain my soul,

    Not out of sympathy alone,

    Not out of pity,

    Not out of martyrdom,

    But out of purest love

    True and genuine.

    Ingrained like roots buried deep,

    Twisting, wrapping around my bones;

    Without them I would starve,

    Without you I would wither,

    An impossibility.

    We are sown of perfect seed;

    Ordained by the universe,

Bound by what cannot be bought,

    It must be grown,

    Watered,

    Nourished,

    Nurtured to maturity,

Protected until the end of time–

    I am yours.

    ~

  • Convoluted Love – A Tanka

    July 27, 2013

    Convoluted love

    A labyrinth of emotions

    Wrenching at the heart

    Leaving you vulnerable

    And easily dismembered

  • Random Events

    July 26, 2013

    Torrential storm of random events

Beyond control your mood doth set

    Thrusting outward in time repents

A heart in sorrow, forgiveness gets

    ~

I know not why I shelter inside

Negativity of others inside my mind

Or what I create I cannot hide

Instead of release ‘til death do bind

    ~

Should not happiness instill us all

    Casting out that beyond control

Living in joy postpone bearer’s pall

Before its too late to corpse console

    ~

Random events are as they say

No path nor end hath fate defined

Life as we make and live this day

Should not be treated as a grind

    ~

Up to us all, our inner smile

Nourish and nurture to heart’s desire

Striving to best our every trial

    Patiently dousing our temper’s fire

    ~

Easier said, more difficult to do

In this life we live on lease

Being as one with nature wrings true

    Thriving and resting in peace

    ~

  • Imbalance – A Tanka

    July 25, 2013

    Shadows overhead

    Cast my soul into darkness

    Threatening to drown

Though I know this is not me

    Imbalance marks me victim

  • Book Review – A Girl Named Cord by Briana C. Vedsted

    July 25, 2013

Okay, here it goes.  I have never written a book review before, but I felt inclined to get out of my comfort zone, poetry, and do one for a book and author that deserves to be recognized.

I was truly honored to have to had the opportunity to read a pre-release copy of – A Girl Named Cord, written by Briana C. Vedsted.  I have been following Briana’s blog at http://whenibecameanauthor.wordpress.com for some time now and have been impressed by her author interviews, stories and poetry so I was certain that any novel written by Briana would live up to her high writing standards and I must say I was not disappointed.

A Girl Named Cord is a western novel set in the American southwest during the second half of the 1800’s.  The story centers on the heroine of the novel, Cord McCoy, who in her personal struggle to fit in with the men in her life during this male dominated time period is confronted with life experiences that force her to grow up fast.  Not only are the characters that Briana created realistic, but the world in which they live comes alive in your minds eye.  This novel, in addition to Cord, has a great cast of supporting characters with Ghost being my personal favorite (I won’t provide any details as I don’t want to give anything away).

A Girl Named Cord has something for everyone, villains, heroes, love, gun play, tragedy, loss and personal strength in the face of adversity.  All of this keeps the story flowing smoothly and prevents it from becoming stagnant.  In addition, the are plot twists and colorful characters throughout keep you guessing what will happen next, right up to the last period of the last page.  What more could one ask for?

In summary, I highly recommend – A Girl Named Cord  for anyone, including the YA crowd, and am looking forward to the official release of  this, her latest novel on July 31st.

Well done Ms. Vedsted, very well done.

  • Tears For Me – A Tanka

    July 24, 2013

    Sky-born droplets stream

    Through riverbeds of life

    Soaking to the skin

    Looking towards heaven above

    Awestruck…are these tears for me

  • Fortress Strong

    July 23, 2013

Sealed up tight in fortress strong

    Awaiting horrors start unknown

For eons this a battle long

Beauty in tragedy time has shown

                                ~~

    Landscapes ravaged, void and burned

Brown and black the palette chosen

Man controls, but has not learned

In Mother’s power, his frailty exposing

                               ~~

Yet in the wake of this terrible scourge

A million lives behind armor are born

Without so much as a prod or an urge

This called home on land war torn

                               ~~

A tiny life out of ashes protrude

This progeny will not struggle alone

Natures mysteries through pain they exude

In beauty birthed of the lowly pine cone

                               ~~
