  • My Heart Cries For You

    April 10, 2013

    My heart cries for you

    Helplessly twisted in knots

    But what can I do

Comfort is all I can give

While you are curled in grief

    Wiping tears away

    Embracing you as lover

    And as dearest friend

You are my reason to live

    My love and my everything

    ~

  • We Must Never Forget – A Tanka

    These flag draped coffins

    Returning from distant wars

    We must not forget

Whether cause be right or wrong

    They’re our brothers and sisters

  • A WOMAN’S BODY

    April 9, 2013

This poem at The Danforth Anchor is absolutely terrific. I thought I would share it with all of you. Enjoy!

    elainedanforth's avatarThe Danforth Anchor

    A woman’s body
was built to bring forth life. . .

but it may not always be
of the usual type. . .

    she’s also shaped
    to allow for
    nurture
    and raise some ones
    to build a future. . .

    but this isn’t always
    just the issue
    of womb-filled hips
or milk duct tissue. . .

    the love radiating
    from her heart,
    then maybe
    through her head. . .
    her silver tongue
    or golden pen
    or sweetly singing lungs

    or shoulders strong
    that can carry many burdens
    to let others
move more swift along. . .

    No one can say–
    not even she,
    before it’s done–
how all of this will written be–
    her whole life-that-brought-forth-life
    story.

  • Glean What Truth – A Tanka

    April 9, 2013

    Glean what truth you can

    From this haggard earthly soul

    Worn by life’s torment

    For mortal time is finite

    By natures perfect design

  • Opportunity

    April 9, 2013

    Opportunity

    Who are the fortunate ones

    Who will be left out

    No question more pertinent

In this most troubled of times

    Was this the promise

Is this all we should expect

    For all the effort

To be let down by country

When it’s help is needed most

  • Foster Only Truth – A Tanka

    April 8, 2013

    Foster only truth

    As you travel this lifetime

    Like the gift of love

It is free for the giving

To those who venture the search

  • Walking Away

    April 6, 2013

    Walking away,

Withdrawing into my conscience as my conscience dictates.

    ~

This water-cooler talk, here say, utter nonsense,

    Tearing down the fabric that binds us;

Serving agendas of personal gain or revenge

    Humiliation or mistrust.

    What purpose does this serve?

Certainly none to better our kind.

    ~

I neither want nor take any part in these juvenile games,

As I have been victim myself on more than one occasion.

Few can pronounce they have not I propose.

    ~

    Harken back to the embarrassment, the anger, the trauma;

Was this pleasurable—most surely it wasn’t.

What pleasure can be derived by such caterwauling?

None I submit, but momentary satisfaction

followed by regret and sorrow if your heart yet beats.

    ~

Would not your energies better serve kindness and generosity

than the degradation of our comrades?

    ~

Would it not be better to think before we speak?

    ~

  • Shadows Loom Larger

    Shadows loom larger

    As an unsteady peace wanes.

    One side posturing,

    Flexing behind high fences,

    Extorting the world with fear.

     Brothers and sisters,

    Born of the same lineage

    Cry from the sidelines

Over a 60 year old feud,

    Asking…Will it ever end?

  • Question of Significance

    April 5, 2013

You see me on the street, but you do not see me.

I am, but a speck of dust caught in the beam of a streetlight.

Insignificant in this grand and glorious scheme,

But not so insignificant to those who cherish me…as I cherish them.

Mother as I to my wife…wife as I to my daughter,

Father as I to my son…all cherish me, as I them.

Miniscule in this tidal pool of humanity as I may be

This robe I wear befits all that breathe this air,

Fed from the heartlands fertile soil,

Pleasure in grain-fed fowl or grass-fed cattle.

    In you dear friends, I see a reflection of me in your life-worn faces;

Neither success nor poverty can separate us in our final hours.

You as I shall become equal to the grasses blade,

The acorn and maple leaf, meal worm and maggot

Shall all become our equals as we return to the earth whence we came.

There is no escape from this inescapable truth.

    Though you persevere to nullify my worth, you can not;

For my worth lies not in your perceptions,

But in those of they who loved me.

    ~
