If…

If a tree falls in the woods…,
Do we hear it?

If a boy cries wolf,
Do we reprimand it?

If politics contradict science,
Do we believe it?

If a lie is told over and over,
Do we ignore it?

If a line is drawn in the sand,
Do we cross it?

If we won’t think for ourselves,
Do we deserve it?

If we refuse to learn from the past,
Do we repeat it?

Question authority as a thoughtful man.
Trust the facts when facts support,
For ignorance can never replace truth.

The New Year Comes

The New Year comes

Amidst fireworks and gunfire.

Another corrosive year

Under the auspices of a fool.

Nothing to change for the better,

Nothing, just more pain,

More divisiveness and heartache.

Watch as what’s unknown

Collapses around our knees.

Impetuousness and egotism

Drive us to the brink of war.

Alone…we’ve alienated our friends,

Left them wondering what we stand for

While we wonder what we stand for.

We’ve lost our souls,

Sold them to the devil himself

While he sits laughing

And watching the insanity of Hannity

On his big screen.

Drowning in birdless tweets,

We live under the thumb of a child

Who treats our sacred institutions

As schoolyard rules to be trampled upon

For his own pleasure.

The New Year comes

And here we are ,

On the second spin of the merry-go-round

With a circus clown at the controls.

God help us…again.

Brother Against Brother

Brother against brother,

Sister against sister,

Words that divide.

Idealogues and pundits

Preaching their truths;

Do they profit from their lies

Or are they blinded by delusion,

We will never know which.

This does not excuse us.

Aren’t we obligated to discern,

Isn’t this what it means to be informed?

It appears we’ve forgotten,

Submitting to partisan experts,

Who feed what we want to hear

To our otherwise deaf ears.

Greatness Is Hidden

Greatness is hidden

Behind a curtain of fear

Vile and ugly

Truly…what is to be gained

For the lecherous many

~

A green light to hate

Harkening back to dark times

When race reigned supreme

Murder was freely sanctioned

With some holding little worth

~

We aren’t this people

Covered in blood and blackness

We are so much more

Look deeply into your soul

See the light that calls your name

~

This light is called love

And we are charged as shepherds

Tending to its flock

What’s best of America

Exists behind this veil

~

Division On Stage

Division on stage;

Peddling war and hatred

To the cheer of crowds.

Angry white folks rebelling

While wrapped in the flag.

Our face is changing…

Diversity’s taking hold

And cannot be stopped

No matter how hard you try.

Time has come to embrace it.

Can You Smell The Winds Of Change

Can you smell the winds of change?

Not confined by border or ethnicity;

It cares not about race, creed or color.

For so long the grass has been trampled,

Crushed under ornate boot heels,

Mowed down by the sharpest of blades

With no thought of the consequences.

Resilience is the way of nature.

Young shoots and saplings rebound,

They cannot be kept down.

Can you smell the winds of change

As they comes for you?

Your palaces and coffers cannot protect you,

Shuttered windows cannot save you,

We are not fooled by your fained sympathy,

Looking us in the eyes from marbled balconies

And lying through your yellowed teeth.

You do not know our condition!

You do not know our pain

As yours are the boots that have ground us to dust!

Take your hollow words and scream into the wind.

Choke on the vomit you spew,

Knowing that the end is near

And it is you that will be crushed

For all of the harm that you have done.

Bitterest Of Pills

Bitterest of pills

I swallowed without consent

And now I’m choking.

With every day that passes

I pray for civility

Only to suffer

The pains of disappointment.

Will I ever learn…

I doubt that I ever will,

But there’s no harm in hoping.

Trying to temper

My passion for politics,

Where lies don’t matter,

Compassion signals weakness

And right and left never meet.

Symbol Of Greatness

Symbol of greatness

Tarnished by greed and hatred.

A once proud people

Sinks deeper into ruin

While wearing a clueless stare.

They would be appalled

If only they were conscious,

But alas they aren’t

Choosing instead to live lies

Propagandized by tyrants.

Shadow Hovering

Shadow hovering,

Masked as national concern,

Arrogant bastard!

Caring not who he offends

As long as his ego is served.

What have we become?

Does not humility count?

Hate does not serve us,

It only serves to inflame

Defining an us and them.

He speaks of greatness,

Uniting America

While he divides us!

Tell me! What’s the attraction

To this thinly skinned buffoon.

The answer’s simple;

He appeals to the lowest

Animal instincts;

Making it okay to hate

Those who they don’t understand.
