Stagnant Waters Their Diseases Yield

Stagnant waters their diseases yield,

Neglectful sores that never healed.

What once seemed healthy now reveals,

Sickness festering, under skin that’s pealed.

Seeking answers we look on high,

As scalpel cuts, we writhe and cry.

The blood doth stream until it’s dry,

Scarring seems as ever nigh.

We chose to hide our seething pain,

Though it cut against the grain.

Now unleashed this horrid stain,

No longer choosing to hide disdain.

Gnashing teeth and spewing spit,

The lower we sink in the hellish pit.

Brought on ourselves by feverish fit,

The more unwillingly we submit.

Submit perhaps, or just gave in,

Giving up to mankind’s penchant for sin.

Our memories are short and patience thin,

Living a destiny that’s already been.

On fear of death, our egos flow,

No pain or suffering we’ll forgo.

Commonsense be damn as we do show,

We’re circling the drain for all we know.

I fear dear friend our wounds won’t heal,

As those before, our fates been sealed.

We never learn what histories revealed,

Instead, we embrace our end with zeal.

Racism

Reviled in the public’s eye

Acknowledged in back alleys and darkened rooms

Color, race and creed are offered up as fodder

In this election year repulsiveness has reared its head

Staining our image in the eyes of the world

Maybe this was the ugly secret we needed to keep hidden

Sanctimonious

Superiority screams arrogance

And angers those who feel slighted,

Nothing will inspire an enemy more.

Clearly we do not learn from history.

The Roman Empire fell,

Ignorance was their downfall.

More and more I see this in us.

Obviously we’ll blame it on human nature,

Never looking back at past mistakes.

It is our way…someone else is always at fault.

Offering an olive branch is seen as weakness,

Undermining our moral standing.

Surely I had hoped we were smarter than this.

Repent

Repent!

There is no repentance,

There is no civility only cruelty.

The cud we chew is our own

Regurgitated repeatedly

Until even we believe the vile spew.

This once great nation has become caustic

Poisoning the lifeblood of its citizens.

O’ how embarrassed I am

To be counted amongst you.

What we viewed as progress

Proved to be nothing but a facade.

The world sees us

Just as ugly as our past portrays.

We fool no one with our mask;

Smiling with our hand outstretched in friendship

Whilst clutching a dagger behind our backs.

Then, with great surprise, things turn sour!

We gasp in horror at the cruelty of our adversaries,

Castigating those we exploit.

In denial we consider ourselves blameless

Arrogantly condemning our victims.

Their hatred runs deep and their memories are long.

As we learn not from our mistakes,

Repeated over and over we achieve the same result,

Setting ablaze modern day Rome,

And leaving its citizens to flee in horror.

You’re Fooling Yourself

You’re fooling yourself

Thinking you’re invincible

Showing arrogance

You are not untouchable

You are still human

Strength in ignorance

Is not really strength at all

But simply weakness

Disguised under a facade

Of false bravery
