Blood Is On Their Hands

Blood is on their hands,

Again choosing to do nothing

In the wake of death.

Guns serve as the golden calf

Glorified by these heathens.

They’ve whored themselves out,

Bought by the highest bidder,

John…the N.R.A.

Instead of the people’s work

They’ve sold us out for money.

Times do change and so must we

Guns aren’t the answer

How many more have to die

Before we show some control

Before I get any angry comments I’d like to make it clear that I am not anti-gun ownership.  I do however, believe that assault style weapons are unnecessary for the average citizen to own for personal protection or otherwise.  We continue to make excuses that banning assault weapons wouldn’t have changed anything and so our leaders have chosen to do nothing and as a result nothing has changed.  We continue to see an increase in mass shootings and an ever greater amount of death with the murders weapon of choice…the assault weapon.  When will one more death be too many?

America’s obsession

Is this not sickness

An unhealthy love of guns

Could be deemed insanity

Author’s Note: Before the gun advocates out there start jumping all over me I want to make it clear that I am not anti-gun.  I myself am a gun owner and will continue to be.  I do however,  believe the following: that we have no need in the public realm to possess assault weapons of any kind, only good can come in requiring background checks to purchase a gun, and lastly that there is no valid reason why a gun should not be registered.  All of the objections to any kind of  reasonable gun control are coming from conspiracy theorists and through the garbage spewed by the NRA.

According to statistics there have been 355 mass shooting in 2015 alone and with each one the majority of Americans hope that it will be the one that finally changes things, but alas nothing ever changes.  Yesterday 14 people were murdered in a mass shooting in San Bernadino California and just like the other 354 that came before it, nothing will likely be done.  All of our thoughts and prayers for the families, though kind, won’t bring their loved ones back nor prevent this type of thing from ever happening again. Thoughts without actions are useless.  No, stricter gun control laws won’t stop every incident of gun violence, but if they stop just one senseless death it would absolutely be worth it. Of course this is just one man’s opinion.

As a final note, the statement from gun advocates is that the bulk of mass shootings are caused by the mentally ill, with this I take no issue, I do believe however, that America’s obsessive compulsive attitude toward guns is a mental illness as well and one that needs treated for the sake of us all.

In Love With Our Guns

Its such an odd twist, absurd,

Answering gun violence with more guns.

Inconceivable, arming teachers in the classroom,

Firearms on college campus’,

Lines, long and winding for munitions,

A run on guns built for a single purpose…

To kill! The prey, not pheasant or mallard…

But people!

Radical outbursts of infringement ravage the land

While cooler heads say no in retort.

Jack-booted thugs do not knock at your door,

Confiscating what is yours.

An instrument of deaths existence

Does not grant license to possess.

Shall RPG, bazooka or grenade launcher be permitted?

Logic to the logical says a resounding no!

I ask you– where does this stop,

When does this madness stop?

Have we not lost enough treasured children,

Have we not seen the senseless acts of violence,

Families and lives destroyed.

This is not the wild west, Tombstone, The Ok Corral,

Time has come to let the gunslinger rest.

This is the twenty-first century for God’s sake,

…Not 1776.
