The Great Overseer Watches

The great overseer watches,

Staring down upon the flora and fauna,

Yellow in the face,

Looming large,

Dwarfing all in his path.

Yet enormity is merely size,

It does not reveal his gentleness.

He would not crush the delicate flower,

Nor terrify beasts of the field.

He leaves no trace of where he’s been

Or where he is going when he leaves.

WIth grace and in silence he rises,

Laying his soft light upon all in his charge.

Signaling slumber for those of the day

And sounding his alarm for the nocturnal.

This is his way,

This is how he always has been.

He simply is

…The gentle giant.

  1. Beautiful, I love the way you ended it!
Make sure you add the link to your entry on the prompt page’s Mr. Linky, so others who participate can see your entry too 🙂

  2. I was surprised to read of the moon as a ‘he’…but I really enjoyed this piece, especially the latter part of the poem. The lines seemed to move more easily one into the other then.

My favourite lines: He leaves not trace of where he’s been
Or where he is going when he leaves

    • Thank you Risa, I really don’t know why I referred to the moon as a he, I guess it just seemed to flow that way for me. Thank you so much for your comment and I’m very glad that you liked the poem. 🙂
