What have we become?
Both sides are fatally flawed.
We–the laughingstocks!
Politics are the cancer
Eating our nation alive.
Are we to perish,
Fading into history
Like Rome’s empire;
Remembered for its grandeur
Through its crumbling ruins?
Perhaps it’s too late,
Our experiment–a dream
May evaporate
Becoming just a footnote
In the annals of mankind.

Sad thing is that I don’t think we’ll be remembered for our grandeur at this point. We’re definitely going down like laughingstocks though.
Sadly I agree and contrary to what most people think this has been a very long time coming. I just hope that cooler heads can prevail before we find that it is too late to change course.
I hope so too. Though compared to other civilizations, are we hitting this ‘burning out’ stage rather quickly?
It sure seems like it. Like it or not this whole slide started with Reagan although the conservative would rather him be treated as the second coming of Jesus Christ, and has been accelerating with every subsequent administration since since. Sadly I for one don’t know what we can do to stop it, but I hope that someone much smarter than me does.
What is the obsession with Reagan? I haven’t figured out why he gets brought up more often than other Presidents these days.
I agree, but the right does so love to hold him up as the Messiah and I really don’t understand why.
I wish I knew the answer to this question. I am not certain we know what we are becoming. I fear we will discover the answer – after the fact. 😦
Great piece of writing;)
Isn’t that always the way, we almost never can see the effect of present actions until much later on. Unfortunately so many times it is too late to do anything about it. Thanks so much Kimberly.
Rome imploded on itself.. The hoards from the North did the rest…
Sadly I worry that we have become Rome. Not a good feeling my friend.
Without a viable third party – At the very least – we are doomed.
Well written. 🙂
You are absolutely correct and it certainly doesn’t look like we will be having any viable options any time soon.
No … the only so-called third party we had turned out to be a more extreme wing of a current party. people have to want to change – they have to want to cooperate – and they don’t want to. they just want to pick a team and line up behind the team — like rooting at a sports game.
You are absolutely correct and the worst part is the majority of us don’t want to change, we would rather pick a side as you say while hating the other side and go along for the ride. A very sad state of affairs indeed.
And our brains are beginning to atrophy. Well, more than *beginning*! In the immortal words of Curly (Three Stooges): “I try to think but nuthin’ happens!”
Ahhh…the wisdom of the Three Stooges, they were much smarter than they appeared. 🙂
Soitenly! 😉
Powerful …
Thank you very much.
