Death Of Our Future

Death of our future;

Skin color–judge and jury

In prejudice hands.

O’ the man he might have been,

Greatness he might have attained!

We will never know

As the blood pool will attest.

Our youth sacrificed

For their outward appearance

Instead of what’s in the heart.

This is pure hatred,

Revealing the blackened soul

Of years long gone by.

We thought we were above this

In one nation under God.

Your words never cease to stir deep emotions. What a lovely gift.

Thank you again Carrie. These kind of events tear at my heart. I don’t claim to to know the exact circumstances of what happened, but what ever it was, death seems to have been completely unnecessary. My heart goes out to Michael’s family and friends.

Thank you very much my friend, such a sad and unnecessary event.

One Nation Under God so long as you’re not brown. Or poor. Or gay. And if your vision of God differs from mine you can forget it, too. It’s pathetic, isn’t it?

    Great poem Dom

We always convince ourselves that we’re not like that as a nation, that those problems don’t exist anymore. If only it were true…

You are correct, I think we do try to convince ourselves that we have evolved as a nation, but almost daily we show just how little we have really changed.
