50 Word Story: Human Face of Immigration

Juan’s tears evaporate before they can run down his burned and blistered cheeks. Face down in the sand he see a vision of his wife and three small children.

What started out as a journey to freedom and a better life is now about to leave him for the vultures.

Thank you Nicodemas, I have been enjoying writing these very much.

Powerful! (It would have taken me more than 50 words to convey my appreciation so I’ll stick with powerful for now)

Thank you Parmis, that is very nice of you to say. :)

The passing of Juan is sad for sure and I am praying that the reason for his demise is not three bullet holes in his back from the rifle of some enraged and crazed self-styled patriot somewhere along the borders.

I certainly hope not. This one had more to do with him dying trying to cross the vast expanses of the southwestern desert in search of a better life. In the process he dies alone and may never be found. It is a story, but based on gruesome fact.

They found a mass grave somewhere I read about and some folks were saying they suspected it was immigrants who didn’t make it.

I have heard that as well. From what I understand the medical examiners have too many cases to deal with and therefore these poor souls wind up in a group hole out in the desert.

Christian Burial in Christian America no doubt.

Well I certainly hope that they received something more than simply a shovel full of dirt.

There is no evidence they did, is there?

No there isn’t and I really don’t have any confirmation that this is truly happening, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I just hope that if it is that they have the decency to at least say a prayer for them.

If I were younger, I would be trying to adopt an orphan. It’s a terrifying crisis.

Yes it is a terrifying crisis. Unfortunately orphans are one of the results of displacement. I too wish I could adopt, but I have raised my children already to adulthood and I don’t think I could go through it again at this stage in my life.

There comes a point when one can no longer think. There are steps in our life.
