    A sensual kiss

    The feathery touch of love

    On a lover’s hand

    Cares evaporate in fire

‘Til there’s nothing left but bliss

  • Maybe I Missed It…

    Maybe I missed it…

    When we became anointed

    Rulers of the world,

    Taking nation’s resources,

    Conquering their citizens.

    And tell me for what?

Could it be for our profit

    As it always is?

    All the savages be damned

    They can’t stop us anyway!

    But the refugees,

    The wars and the violence…

    This isn’t our fault.

Why take blame for our actions

When you can blame someone else.

  • Barbed Wire Gauntlet

    September 16, 2015

    Barbed wire gauntlet

Raised to stem the human tide,

    Too much too quickly.

    Balancing fear with chaos…

    Another iron curtain.

    Displaced and hopeless,

    Longing for Europe’s safety,

    Left in no-man’s land.

  • 100 Word Story: This Must Be Hell

    September 15, 2015

    This must be Hell!

Confusion clouds my senses as I sit drenched in sweat consumed by the blackness of this void.  I have clawed and scratched at the coarse stone walls for all these many hours to no avail.  The sting of broken nails and bloody fingers are the only reward for my efforts.

Pressing up, the ceiling offers no means of escape.  Instead the jagged rocky teeth tear my forearms and hands to ribbons…I am trapped!

Uncontrollable tears stream down my cheeks as I am resigned to my fate, that Hell is real and I’m going to die.

  • O’ The Beauty, the Warmth of the Sun,

    September 15, 2015

O’ the beauty, the warmth of the sun,

The bluest of blue skies, whitest of clouds floating on hidden breezes.

What worries do I have when surrounded by the Divine’s Creations?

Temporal pains hold no sway in the face of Heaven’s glorious perfection.

I gripe over aches, aging, suffering and death

Spending my life in pity over the trivial.

    But why?

Is not peace and joy spread out before me,

Have I not been granted five senses for their pleasure?

What has been given proves to be insufficient,

An incessant want pervades my very being.

This ego drives me to horde ever more of the materialistic…

    I am weak!

Lying back in the tall green grass I marvel at Heaven,

Watching birds of all variety crisscross its expanse.

    Wondering…Perhaps they know the answer,

Living simply and in the moment,

Requiring nothing, but food and shelter.

Wasn’t this what was endowed to us by the Creator, In The Beginning

Until the day our egos drove us to sin.

Maybe it is time I step back,

Taking time to look for that little spark that burns within

    …That is God.

    Life’s fluidity

    Frightening to so many

    So they swim upstream

    Isn’t life evolution…

    Nothing ever stays the same

  • 50 Word Story: Lynching

    September 8, 2015

Trembling with fear as he stood precariously on his tiptoes, the rope tightening with every stumble. Gerald could hear the sounds of laughter and chiding erupt behind him from the white-hooded cowards.

Why the uproar over the Stars and Bars?  Because lynching was commonplace only a handful of decades ago.

    COMMENTARY:

It is very easy for one to dismiss the feelings of others when they have not walked in their shoes, especially if they are white.

It’s hard to believe, but up through the mid 1930s the hanging (lynching) of blacks in the deep south was not at all uncommon.  This is certainly not long enough for the memory to fade as I’m certain that there are those still alive today that can remember the horrors of seeing or hearing about  friends and loved ones who met their maker at the end of the racists noose.

We are fast to criticize the protests of an entire race of people because of a few bad apples, but this in my mind does not diminish the validity of their cause.  Look black history in this country.  They were not brought here of their own volition, they were enslaved for more than two centuries, then treated like second class citizens until the 1960s and many would claim that they still are right up until today.  This I cannot dispute as I for one have never walked even a single day in their shoes.

  • Capitalism

    September 8, 2015

    Can you imagine a country;

    A system where money…

    Profit is its religion,

    I certainly can.

Take a look at what we’ve become

    America, owned by corporations

Leaving its citizens rummage through their trash.

Is this what the promise was

Suffering under the greed of oligarchs?

Maybe not, but this is precisely who we are.
