Neither ignorance
Nor arrogance are virtues
A raving madman
Still in the end he’s human
The Anti-Christ he is not

Reviled in the public’s eye
Acknowledged in back alleys and darkened rooms
Color, race and creed are offered up as fodder
In this election year repulsiveness has reared its head
Staining our image in the eyes of the world
Maybe this was the ugly secret we needed to keep hidden
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
How did we arrive on this vile path
Where fiction and fantasy meet?
Justified in spewing their putrid rath
In droves before our feet.
They peddle not, in truth tis true
But little this seems to matter.
Sooner or later this stance they’ll rue
Once their illusions are shattered.
Never shall I understand the blind allure
Of a pompous and childish ass.
To lead the free world with temperament sure
There’s no room for any morass.
Dark are the days ahead for us, a once great and powerful nation.
For empires become superfluous, with righteous indignation.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Superiority screams arrogance
And angers those who feel slighted,
Nothing will inspire an enemy more.
Clearly we do not learn from history.
The Roman Empire fell,
Ignorance was their downfall.
More and more I see this in us.
Obviously we’ll blame it on human nature,
Never looking back at past mistakes.
It is our way…someone else is always at fault.
Offering an olive branch is seen as weakness,
Undermining our moral standing.
Surely I had hoped we were smarter than this.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Repent!
There is no repentance,
There is no civility only cruelty.
The cud we chew is our own
Regurgitated repeatedly
Until even we believe the vile spew.
This once great nation has become caustic
Poisoning the lifeblood of its citizens.
O’ how embarrassed I am
To be counted amongst you.
What we viewed as progress
Proved to be nothing but a facade.
The world sees us
Just as ugly as our past portrays.
We fool no one with our mask;
Smiling with our hand outstretched in friendship
Whilst clutching a dagger behind our backs.
Then, with great surprise, things turn sour!
We gasp in horror at the cruelty of our adversaries,
Castigating those we exploit.
In denial we consider ourselves blameless
Arrogantly condemning our victims.
Their hatred runs deep and their memories are long.
As we learn not from our mistakes,
Repeated over and over we achieve the same result,
Setting ablaze modern day Rome,
And leaving its citizens to flee in horror.

You’re fooling yourself
Thinking you’re invincible
Showing arrogance
You are not untouchable
You are still human
Strength in ignorance
Is not really strength at all
But simply weakness
Disguised under a facade
Of false bravery
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Shadow hovering,
Masked as national concern,
Arrogant bastard!
Caring not who he offends
As long as his ego is served.
What have we become?
Does not humility count?
Hate does not serve us,
It only serves to inflame
Defining an us and them.
He speaks of greatness,
Uniting America
While he divides us!
Tell me! What’s the attraction
To this thinly skinned buffoon.
The answer’s simple;
He appeals to the lowest
Animal instincts;
Making it okay to hate
Those who they don’t understand.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Look within your heart my wayward son
To where your ancestry lies
At gun’s molten barrel the war won’t be won
No matter how hard you might try
Where did your fathers and mothers come from
No doubt from a long distant shore
Once arriving in America their journey’d begun
Facing more than their hopes bargained for
Fiery rhetoric from the ignorant right
Does nothing but insight hate filled fear
Isolating newcomers who fled terrors fight
Disillusioning their wish to be here
It’s amazing how little this nation’s progressed
Seeing prejudice and racism rear their heads
Taking one step forward then two we regress
Giving in to the hate mongers dread
Perhaps it is time we holster our guns
And temper our fork tongued speech
Instead doing what America should have done
Practicing exactly what we preach
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
In the crystal blackness of the nighttime sky the golden tail of some terrestrial body illuminates the heavens. Perhaps it is the contrail of some alien ship looking down upon this sad misguided world knowing that soon all of this could be theirs as we perish by our own hands.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Have we no shame
Unravelling nations and peoples;
Milling through their resources for our own gain,
Insisting we are justified.
Look at the dead in our wake!
Is this what humbleness looks like
Taking what’s theirs as ours
Yet claiming we are righteous?
