Cool of evening settles
Blades, wicker slowly whirring overhead
It’s hum rhythmic in accompaniment
Crickets chirp softly
Bringing gently waving grass to life
O’ how calming is dusk
Tho’ sweat yet trickles from my brow
As from my tumblers chill
Tropical flavors, fresh mango and papaya
Sooth the scorched palate
Shimmering pools call to me
Beckoning to placate tortured skin
I can scarcely resist this sensual temptation
As the clang of greatly diminished cubes
rattle the bottom of my now empty glass
I succumb to temptation
Shedding heat dampened clothes as if on fire
Plunging headlong into diamond heaven
Refreshed as water streams down my face
Ushering in the chill of summers breeze
Over moistened skin
I am renewed, welcoming vitality
As if reacquainted with an old friend
What more could one desire on a sweltering night
Than to be comforted by cooling breezes,
~

in reading this, I could feel myself physically with you and experiencing all that you are experiencing:)
Thank you, I tried to paint a picture with this piece…I see that it worked. :)
I like the feel of this poem. :D You’ve got some nice texture in there.
Thank you very much, I tried to express the environment for this poem.
:) It worked very well.
Thanks again. :)
For me the best poems create atmosphere as your does.
Thank you very much, I know I don’t always do that well, but I really tried with this piece. :)
Great poem, depicting a feeling/expereince I know well:-) I particularly enjoyed, ‘plunging headlong into diamond heaven’ a beautiful reminder of how water glistens and sparkles brighter than any precious gem.
Thank you, I very glad that you can relate and enjoyed the poem. :)

So lovely and evocative! A perfect description of dusk.
Thank you very much, I’m glad that you enjoyed it. :)
Wanted stop in and thank you for checking my post out and then deciding to follow it. I do quote commentary M & T, Showcase other poets poetry on W,Thu., and F, then usually post my own poetry on S & S just in case you are interested.>KB
Thank you for letting me know and for reciprocating the follow, I really appreciate it and look forward to reading more of your posts.
Fantastic poem with great imagery! You did an excellent job of capturing the feeling of being there.
Thank you Cody, that is much appreciated. :)
The images flowed one after the other and I wanted to waltz to an old Nat King Cole song. Who can resist the cool of an evening? Not me.
Me either, we are just getting to that time of year here although the days are still plenty warm. :) Thank you for the nice comment.
