Lives Lost

Lives lost–statistics–

Death scrolls on the news ticker,

We can’t feel their pain.

Vaccinated from the world

We live in ignorant bliss.

Do we really care?

Our own are an afterthought

In our decade wars.

How truly cold we’ve become

Trading life for apathy.

O’ Blessed Silence How I Long For Thee (Sonnet)

O’ blessed silence, how I long for thee,

Surrounded by ignorance and fools.

Blind to reality by refusing to see,

They’re being used as propagandist tools.

Is not an informed citizenry a wonderful thing,

With fact-based opinions at their core.

Sadly lost to the masses, they grasp for a ring,

Tarnished from a time long before.

It seems compassion’s lost to the hearts of fellow-men,

Leaving them cold with the worst traits thought past.

Rigid and hateful and unwilling to bend,

Claiming piety with iron-fist holding fast.

The softening of hearts would surely serve us well while still questioning those that lead us.

A sacred obligation as our founders did tell with diplomacy and respect to discuss.

Left Alone (Shadorma)

Left alone

Stranded and starving

Walls confine

What to do

Surrounded by tenements

To fend for myself

~

Where am I

Where are my kinsmen

My bright coat

I’m barren

Afraid to show my true self

For fear of the ax

~

True sadness

Shows in every limb

Thin, haggard

Beyond frail

My fate clearly before me

A final fall draws near

Galvanizing Hate

Galvanizing hate!

Bombs serve as propaganda

Scrolled in human blood.

Tears can’t wash away the pain

As the body count rises.

What is to be gained,

There cannot be a victor

Amongst this madness?

Only memories of death

Can survive in these ruins.

Animosity!

The progeny of warfare,

Perpetuated.

It is the subjugator–

Trapping us in violence.

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Violence Begets Violence

Violence begets violence,

Through blood and terrible pain.

Hatred begets hatred,

With every fallen name.

Actions in this moment

Last for generations to come

Long after reasons forgotten

Our passions still succumb.

Perpetuating animus

At the cost of innocent life

Caught in the crossfire

Stainless victims of this strife.

Given a moment of thought

Or a look in a childs face.

Would we be so rash

To kill instead of embrace.

Perhaps someday great wisdom

Will seed the hearts of man.

To recognize the evil

Exacted since time began.

The hope for lasting peace

Lives in my fondest dreams.

Though unlikely in this lifetime

Nor ever so it seems.

Scattered Amongst The Ashes

Scattered amongst the ashes

A solitary flame flickers

Shedding light on the bleakness of this world.

Perhaps the next child born will be the one to save us from ourselves.

Each first breath offering hope

That our nescience is not irreparable.

Deeming ourselves civilized

We erect gauntlets against what does not fit our world view.

Denying climate change,

Though it stares us in the eye,

Forcing spiritual beliefs

All the while claiming discrimination,

Sloughing off cries of racism

Because admission would make us something less than human.

I see no light amongst the living–

Only more of the same driven by greed and selfishness.

If we are to be rescued it will be by a new guard,

One untainted by our perverted values,

One born with the humanity, the selflessness, the courage

To eradicate the filth that pollutes this planet

With their bastardized vision of God

And their gluttonous appetite for money.

Scorched Earth, Tragic End (Tanka)

Scorched earth, tragic end

Dignity strewn far and wide

–No rest for the dead

Stranded in frozen boxcars

Awaiting man’s compassion
