Drinking dulls the pain,
Feeding the same worn excuse,
Permitting abuse,
Damaging family and friends,
Leaving no external scars.
Yet wounds just as real
Bleed, becoming infected,
Contagious with time,
Perpetuating sickness
For generations to come.

So true this is. The interesting thing is I can see how someone would drink to dull pain but I know what drinking can do on the other end – thus I would never drink.
I understand completely, it has done damage in our family and I’m sure it has occurred to some degree in most peoples families. I like the occasional beer (I don’t drink anything else), but certainly not to excess. :)
We all do things we don’t even always understand to ‘dull the pain’ – some are just more obvious or damaging than others. IT takes courage to live in freedom, without relying on our personal crutches to get through. It takes courage to face the demons beyond the addictions – may we all take up that courage and live well!
Very well said Melody,it takes courage to face life’s challenges without the use of self-destructive crutches.
I have experienced the effects of alcohol both in my family and in my counselling work and I hate it!
It is sad that most of us have been adversely affected by this in our personal lives. I too have had a number of alcoholics in my family and they always blame others for their plight. Thank you for sharing your comment. :)
