How is it that mankind never learns
Images of the past are destined to repeat themselves
Since the beginning of time this has been true
The great, seemingly invincible, eventually fall
Obsessed with their own self-importance
Rarely realize they are collapsing under their own weight
Yielding the inevitable return to the dust from which they were created

I think you have hit it on the head. Everyone new that comes along thinks they can beat the odds. Has what it takes. Life demands attrition in all forms and all walks of life. It is the natural order that is inherent in the change of seasons. A life cycle of our keeping track of time.Very good.>KB
Thank you very much, I am glad that you liked the poem.
Acrostics don’t get nearly enough use. I think humans always think things will be different when they try. Like jumping off a cliff, but I’ll survive because I flap my arms instead of screaming in terror.
Isn’t that the truth, we think that if we do the same thing over and over again that there will be a different outcome…hum, I don’t think that’s how it works. As far as acrostics go, I agree that they don’t get done enough, I actually think they are a fun form to write and will probably do a few more in the near future.
They tend to be seen as juvenile because it’s a popular poem to teach kids with.
Well my wife has called juvenile at times so I guess they are perfect for me. :)
Reblogged this on A Heart's Echoes.
Thank you so very much for the reblog, I appreciate that you enjoyed my poem.
I sure did, you’re welcome Mr. Dom =)
I may try the acrostic form. It does look like fun and I am a bit juvenile myself, so I should be qualified? :)
Welcome to the club although it isn’t quite as easy as it appears…thankfully. I’m many things, but I prefer not to be known as simple. :)
Excellent take on the prompt Dom, and also an acrostic that reads like a poem too, quite an accomplishment
Thank you very much Jem, I’m glad that you liked it. :)
