Thoughts of correctness–political or otherwise rise this time of year,
Merry Christmas replaced by Happy Holidays so as not to offend.
Is this not still Christmas which we for so long held dear,
There has been no change in the calendar I do portend.
.
What–pray tell is of such offense during this season so joyous,
Are not both happiness and goodwill the same amongst all?
Making merry at this time was once so pleasant–boisterous;
Kind smiles and hearty handshakes have suffered in pall.
.
Abstain if you must, from this merriment we freely offer,
Wallow in self-pity and become victim to your social demise.
There is far more to Christmas than filling retailers coffers,
Its a chance to renew our faith in man with a clearer set of eyes.
.
Regardless of religion take from this holiday what you will,
For if nothing but kindness and generosity, then your heart it will fill.
.

True and lovely.
Lots of love
Thank you Patty. :)
Very well said. I really get confused this time of year since it’s supposed to be joyous and people seem so testy.
I think we have put so much pressure on ourselves to find the perfect gifts (which most of the time we fail at) that we have lost what Christmas is really all about. Like most things in life we let commercialism get in the way.
I agree. Kind of a shame because the holidays get absorbed.
Yes they do and it is sad that it happens when it use to be about family and friends.
I know this year was really bad with the way Black Friday was extended. Caused a lot trouble for some.
Starting Black Friday on Thanksgiving day really irks me, pretty soon Black Friday will start on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving…ugh!
Then it will start on Halloween. Eventually, this country will be consumed by Black Friday.
Excellent :D Like that cartoon said ” Merry Yulechrishannakamas and a Happy Ramikwanzaadan”
I love that, if only I could pronounce them. :)
It’s a cute cartoon, but be warned – the song may stick in your head for a few days ;) http://vimeo.com/8338469
Well thank you very much for this. I have been humming the tune all day and its so bad that I just watched it again. This is a mean thing to do to someone at Christmas although I suppose it means that it is the gift that keeps on giving…over and over and over…. :)
Merry Christmas! It’s okay to say it.
Thank you, I actually go out of my way to say it. I really don’t know why we ever felt we needed to stop. It certainly isn’t meant to offend anyone. It seems somewhat childish to me to have had to ever change it. Merry Christmas to you my friend.
I come bearing gifts: http://words4jp.wordpress.com/2013/12/17/gratitude-and-appreciation/
Please know that you do not have to accept – I realize you may not accept awards. I perfectly understand and mean no disrespect. I see these awards as gifts – gifts of appreciation and gratitude for your inspiration and the friendship you bring to my heart. xx
Oooo…I love gifts and what better time than at Christmas. Times like this make me feel really bad that I don’t accept awards, but that still doesn’t mean that it isn’t nice every once in a while to get one, especially from a person that I consider a friend (that would you you by the way in case you didn’t know). What you wrote brought both a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. It was so very sweet of you to say all those nice things. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the wonderful nomination my dear friend. :)
You are so welcometh;). xxxxx
It warmeth the cockles of my heart fair maiden. :)
I feareth I may faint;)
I hopeth that you landeth on something soft. :)
Pshaw:) Guess whoeth is reading Macbeth? My youngest lad – Sir Peyton. I must speaketh to him in the ‘eth’ language!
That is so cooleth! The whole “eth” thing is kind of fun and can go on forever. :) I hope he enjoys it…a true classic.
Me too’eth. He is relieved he never had to read Romeo and Juliet;)
Oddly, I liked it although I am a nerd for the classics, they are my favorite reads.
Hooray well said!
Thank you very much, it is just something that has bothered me for a long time. :)
Very Good my friend! For some unknown reason, you were deleted from my reader by no action by me..WP did it?
Thank you very much, I have someone that I haven’t seen any posts from in a very long time. I’m going to have to check and see if she has been deleted from mine. I do know this happens from time to time. Thanks for coming back. :)
I swear if didn’t delete anyone’s name and they are gone.
Lovely poem and very nicely said. I no longer buy presents except for my grandson…Two years ago I started offering my Christmas meal as their gift from me. And there are lots of leftovers they can bring home afterwards. I love the getting together best and you’re right, Merry Christmas should not be offensive. My friend who is Jewish loves Christmas and never felt offended nor being told Happy New Year…it means more than the words…you poem says so well.
Thank you for you wonderful comment. I too know many of the Jewish faith and none of them seem to be offended by a wish of “Merry Christmas”, in fact many of them put up Christmas trees because they find them beautiful. I love your idea of the meal being your gift, it is a great lesson to teach your grandson, one that will last him a lifetime. Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year to you my friend.
Thank you Dominic, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too, mon ami:)
