Simple pleasures,
Too often ignored.
Sunsets,
A gentle rain,
The beauty of a newborn,
All wasted on the modern world.
Facebook,
Twitter,
Video games,
Smartphones,
E-mail,
We are trapped in a virtual world.
Never truly disconnected,
Dinner conversation is replaced by tweeting,
Facebook friend counts are more important than eye contact.
Do we even remember putting pen to paper?
Talking face-to-face with an old friend,
Asking each other “How was your day?”,
I’m not sure that we do.
Tracking loved ones by GPS,
Texting while driving,
Driving while tweeting,
All the makings of a digital death wish.
Welcome to the 21st century,
Where new is not necessarily better,
And life has emerged impersonal!

this is wonderfully written. i like the message. i think i shall call myself a facebook survivor… as i was able to walk away from my facebook account after many years… no more the slaughter of humanity… now it’s time to turn off the machines! i bet some people don’t even own a pen and perhaps some kids will never buy a stamp or write a cheque!
Thank you for the comment. I am probably as big an offender as anyone when it comes to technology. I work in the field and love the convenience of all the tools, but reminiscing, I do miss the conversation at the dinner table that I had growing up as a kid and still love to write with pen and paper. I guess I’m just being nostalgic.
This is great. I’ve not fallen victim as of yet since social networks frighten me.
Thank you very much. Like everything else, social media has it good and bad points with one of the worst being avoidance of personal contact. Used in moderation it is a good thing in my opinion.
