I have heard the song many times. Although I was never an Elvis fan (although I did like Mac Davis) this was one of his songs that I always loved. I actually got the idea for this haiku from a news story I heard on BBC radio yesterday. They interviewed a woman living in Chicago who lost all of her children to gun violence (4 children) with her remaining child, her 23 year old son, having been killed less than one month ago. It actually brought tears to my eyes to listen to her. This unfortunately is so common and so sad. Thank you for the nice compliment, I appreciate it as always.
Okay, so while I love your longer poems, I am somewhat in awe of your short, pregnant haikus. So much said, with such a beautiful economy of words. Thank you!
Well thank you Anna. Lately I have really been enjoying writing in the haiku and tanka styles, they are challenging, but fun to write. This particular one was inspired by a BBC World News interview with a mother in Chicago that lost all 4 of her children to gun violence. It was so sad to listen to.
