  1. heartbreaking and so horribly sad and true. Did you ever here the song In the Ghetto? It was written by Mac Davis – a throwback name from the 60’s and 70’s – and written for Elvis. He is the only one who ever recorded it. Give it a glance and a listen on Youtube. I think you will appreciate this song.

I love reading your work. It has a conscience – :)

    • I have heard the song many times. Although I was never an Elvis fan (although I did like Mac Davis) this was one of his songs that I always loved. I actually got the idea for this haiku from a news story I heard on BBC radio yesterday. They interviewed a woman living in Chicago who lost all of her children to gun violence (4 children) with her remaining child, her 23 year old son, having been killed less than one month ago. It actually brought tears to my eyes to listen to her. This unfortunately is so common and so sad. Thank you for the nice compliment, I appreciate it as always.

    • Well thank you Anna. Lately I have really been enjoying writing in the haiku and tanka styles, they are challenging, but fun to write. This particular one was inspired by a BBC World News interview with a mother in Chicago that lost all 4 of her children to gun violence. It was so sad to listen to. Thank you again for the support and taking time to comment.
