Demons, of the mind or real
Are they not one and the same?
It all depends on how you feel,
Perception is the name of the game.
~
A fact to one, to another fiction
It matters your point of view.
A passing fad or tragic addiction,
Apparent in what we say and do.
~
It makes no difference the chosen vice,
Whether outside or so ingrained.
Once affliction takes hold, you never think twice,
They are illness’ one and the same
~
Bite down on your tongue the next time you speak
About thinks you know nothing about.
The outlook for some, no matter how bleak
Is a demon they’re fighting to rush out.

Maybe the real trick of demons is to make us believe they’re figments of our imagination, so it’s harder to beat them.
Thanks Charles, you may very well be right.:)
This is really very good. I am amazed how quickly people are to judge. I suppose it is the human thing to do, but most of the time, it seems, it is hastiness which brings upon misunderstanding and hurt. Lovely piece.
Thank you Kimberly, it is true that human nature drives us to make quick judgements of others when instead we should try to be more understanding.
I like your poems, this one especially, though I always have to think hard about the meaning, mainly because I’m new in both reading and writing poetry. But then, when I´m ready to take the short-cut, I just start reading the tags and then I go “Oh, this is what he meant with this verse or that verse, now I get it. Why have I been so slow…”
But one thing is for sure, your poetry is still a lot easier to figure out than most modern paintings. Here at least I’ve got a chance to the aha-effect and that’s what I like, I wanna understand.
Thank you so much for this really nice comment Eve. Like you, I like to be able to understand what the author is getting at or at the least have the poem mean something to me even if my interpretation is not exactly what the author intended. I suppose that this is one of the wonderful things about poetry, it only has to mean something to the reader, if the writer succeeds in that he has done well. Thank you again, I’m so glad that you liked this poem.
