A Reinvention (Tanka)

A reinvention

What exactly does that mean

Imaginary

The lies we tell to ourselves

We can’t be something we’re not

    • What I was getting at is that we try to convince ourselves that we can change into a person that we are not. We may be able to change our outward appearance or some of our mannerisms, but we can’t change what is inside us no matter how try, that is the lie. Of course this is just my opinion.

      • I do believe change is possible, even at our roots-Life is a constant journey. We can choose whether and when to embrace change or personal growth or NOT. If I asked you personally Dom, if you believe you are the very same man you were 20 years ago? Would you say yes to that-or no? I think events and time can change and shape us-but of course that is just me! I respect if you disagree!

      • I would say that some things about me have changed, for instance I am a father which is something that through the shortsightedness of youth I didn’t foresee, but fundamentally I am still the same person inside I was as a teen that I am now at almost 50. I still have the same fears, the same shortcomings, many of the same attitudes as I did then, although I am far better at hiding them now than I used to be. There are many things that are a part of me that I wish I could change, such as some petty jealousy’s that I carry inside, these are completely self-imposed, but they plague me today just as they always have. Of course that is just one example. I do think that we can add things to ourselves such as becoming spouses or parents, but I still believe that the things residing within the self, gained either through nature or nurture depending on your point of view never change. This is just my opinion my friend and I do respect yours as well as I may be completely wrong. Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment.

    • I think that some people just give the impression that they have reinvented themselves, but deep down they are the same person they have always been. I don’t believe that you can truly change who you are, of course that is just my opinion. :)
