Spirits Suffer Under Winter’s Wrath

Spirits suffer under winter’s wrath,

Testing one’s fortitude to it’s last.

With anger, depression, anxiety and stress,

Leaving our sanity in quite a mess.

One glimpse out the window, on an icy chill

Leaves us with nothing, but time to fill.

Stir-crazy or claustrophobic it matters not,

Being caged as animals, seems an evil plot.

Too dangerous to cross thresholds spiteful path,

Daring us to tempt fate with her frosty laugh.

Those who are bold may chance demise

And look at her face through watery eyes.

Hoping against frostbite or something worse,

That leaves you stiff under Jack Frost’s curse.

So maybe being cooped up isn’t so bad,

Compared to all that you could have had.

Hopefully being stuck with the ones you love

Doesn’t turn out to be such a terrible rub.

Just know that soon this too shall thaw

And leave you more joyful in springtime’s awe.

  1. Nice one. Oddly enough, there’s an increase in depression for some as spring approaches. We have a gorgeous blue-sky day, but arctic breeze is chilly till you work up some steam, walking!

    • In Arizona where I live we seldom have a day without blue skies and at least moderate temperatures. I find this far more desirable than when I lived on the east coast where I grew up. I just don’t miss the cold at all. :)

      • I don’t imagine you do–Ariz sounds very nice indeed. I’d be frightened of the “wildlife”–lizards, scorpions, snakes and such…

      • Well the lizards are harmless, they are actually good, they eat a lot of the other things that we don’t want around. Scorpions are more a nuisance than anything else, their sting hurts, but unless you are allergic to them they aren’t really much of a problem. In the 12 years that I have lived here, we have found only a couple in the house, 1 in the bathtub and the other dead in a light fixture. They eat crickets mostly so if you exterminate for crickets, the scorpions don’t hang around since there is nothing to eat. Fortunately I have never been stung by one although my son has 4 different times, but never at home and other than some numbness, no other problems. The snakes are around although you seldom see them. I’ve only had 2 close encounters, but their rattles let me know they were there so I kept my distance. Believe me this sounds much worse than it really is, you have to be careful when you walk out into the open desert, but otherwise none of these desert dwellers are really much of a problem.

      • Actually they are 5 little dogs. The biggest one Stewie is about 25 lbs and his sister is about 8 pounds. The other 3 are all in the around the size of small terriers. :)
