Lost Amongst Chaos

Lost amongst chaos

Something had to change quickly

To keep sanity

In the quiet dark I sat

Alone with only my thoughts

Finally peace knocked

Begging me to let her in

A most welcome friend

Come home to roost for a time

I just hope she plans to stay

A Frantic Blur

Aldgate to Liverpool Street by Caroline Hall

Aldgate to Liverpool Street by Caroline Hall

A frantic blur,

The speed of life,

My mind a slur,

Full of stress and strife.

~

Like a fast moving train,

While staring straight,

Outrunning the brain,

Leaves a confused state.

~

Hustle and bustle obscure our view,

With too many things on our plate,

Clouding our judgement the mind is confused,

Chaos will result as our fate.

~

Slow down the pace or surely implode,

As our bodies are drained of their senses,

Or even worse yet our heads may explode,

Evicting the stress it dispenses.

~

What would result if we choose not to comply,

Our health and sanity will suffer,

Leaving our body and mind here to die,

From which we can never recover.

Caligula Though Tyrant He Be

Caligula though tyrant he be, is not so unlike my chaotic mind,

Burned to the ground like Nero’s Rome, a cure oh so difficult to find.

Cries to the almighty gods, heaven sent go unanswered,

Eating at my senses and sanity like a cancer.

Why is it that the clarity of thought so often goes awry

When focus eludes me no matter how I try.

Is this a curse–a symptom of a troubled body and soul,

I know not, still it leaves me feeling less than whole.

Most fortunate to me is that it never long lasts,

A matter of hours or days is all it takes to pass.

Yet this is of no less a concern and satisfies me little,

Stunting my spirit like knife to wood wittle.

Alone I am not of this I am certain,

As this diatribe ends and I bring down the curtain.

Praying that soon this too will vanish,

Returning to me clarity from whence it was banished.

Scatter-brained

Scatter-brained fury

Whirlwind– chaotic thought

Focus forfeited

Words, trapped behind a gauntlet

On a pothole laden road

Poetic nightmare…

The Quiet

How eerily quiet it is

As dusk rushes in to part day from night.

The birds song falls silent,

Screaming to a deprived auditory,

A favorite time of day.

Providing respite to the senses,

Relief from the noise and chaos,

The pollution that ravages solace.

So few are these moments of silence;

The bombardment of the modern world sees to that.

Sights, sounds, electronics, social media,

Flooding, desensitizing, minimizing,

Reducing humanity to its possessions.

Instant gratification,

Constant entertainment,

Mindless busyness with little reward

Fill the hours of the every day.

Meditation,

Peacefulness of sleep,

Simple reading,

Communion with thoughts

Are endeavors relegated to antiquity if so ignored.

The natural joys of quiet revitalize,

Bringing balance to the imbalances of life.

With eyes closed, in silence,

The beating of the heart

Will become the song in the mind

Reconnecting spirit to nature and humanity.
