Cold, Cold Heart – A Tanka

The gray sky, clouds hover

Looks like another snow day

Cold, harsh, unfeeling

You left me for another

Shattering my heart like ice

A Fools Infatuation

I hoped you’d see me for who I am,

Kind, tender, loving,

Not the image in a funhouse mirror.

~~

Twisted, distorted,

Too tall and thin, too short and fat,

Maybe a little different.

~~

Dredging up the courage,

Heart feeling ready to burst,

Dry throated I swallowed.

~~

Struggling to make a sound,

I offered my heart,

You laughed.

~~

Crushed, eyes welling with tears,

Head in hands to hide the shame,

Soulless succubus.

~~

Confidence torn to shreds,

Heart eviscerated, raised to the scorching sun,

It withered.

~~

What a fool I was,

To be so presumptuous,

That you could ever love me.
