Hades screams its torrid winds,
Scorching earth of bone and skin.
Desolate ground of sun bleached sand,
Reminiscent of lunar land.
~
Scrub brush torn from shallow root,
Crushed to dust while under foot.
Watching step for danger lurks,
From thorn and fang and stingers work.
~
Blistering flesh under cloudless sky,
Waterless fools most surely die.
So this goes for man and beast,
It matters not be most or least.
~
Call of hawk and vulture above,
No place for cardinal, sparrow or dove.
Unforgiving this land it takes,
Seizing on each and every mistake.
~
Birds of prey circle and wait,
For nature to inflict a certain fate.
A hearty meal in barren land,
Relying on the feast at hand.
~
Wasteland though it seems to be,
There’s so much more than the eye can see.
It’s beauty lies not in pleasing flowers,
Nor in forests where great pine trees tower.
~
Instead it lies in stark contrast,
To seashores blue landscape so vast.
Inhospitable appearance its enduring charm,
In spite of all potential harm.

Thank you very much. :)
This is very good. Excellent work.
Thank you very much WB.
I suddenly feel an overwhelming thirst… :)
Well it is 109 degrees here today and tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter. Welcome to summer! :)
Hmmm. Risk of frost here tonight. Are we on the same continent???? :(
Sometimes it is very hard to tell. :)
Wow! Very dark … and powerful. :)
And realistic. Its really hot here today. At present it is 109 degrees with 111 degrees scheduled for tomorrow.
Oh. My.
We were in the high 90s this week and that was bad enough. Yuk! We were glad for a “cold snap” in the high 80s!
Your weather sounds beautiful, ours is a dry heat. :)
Not beautiful … so HUMID you can’t move. It’s awful. South-central Peeay is miserable in the 90s.
I suppose not, I used to live on the east coast and 90 degrees with 98 percent humidity is neither beautiful nor fun.
And I suppose you laugh when people say (of the West Coast) … “but it’s a DRY HEAT”! ;)
Neither one is fun. But this humidity is a killer. :(
The humidity certainly is and I for one don’t miss that part of summer. We have have times when it is 115 degrees and 7 percent humidity…now that is a dry heat. Right now our humidity is only 11 percent and its supposed to be 107 today. :)
Yowzers! “Dry heat” or “humid heat”, that’s purty durn hot!!!!! o.O
Yes it is and another 111 day on Friday, its going to be a looooong hoooooot summer. :)
My condolences. :(
Weird weather — early June and in the 110s in some places; OK has 2 ef5 tornadoes … and today south central Peeay was in the 70s. I am very grateful for our good luck today!!!!!
I love the flow of this.
Thank you very much. :)
Beautiful contrast!!! “Wasteland though it seems to be,
There’s so much more than the eye can see.” So true. There are so many sides to nature. Reminds me also of how diverse we are as people.
That is so very true. Thank you very much.
A very dark dream scape, very well written.
Thank you very much. This is the landscape that I live in. Hot! Hot! Hot! Summer is here. :)
I really enjoyed this, the power of it swept over me like waves of lava.
Thank you very much, I’m glad that you liked it and I appreciate you saying so.
