Serene the gentle trickle of meandering brook,
Over pebbles smooth from run of time,
Coolness washes over these tired soles,
Filling lungs with fragrant breath.
How free the feeling of babble-chilled numbness,
Drifting north on travel weary limbs.
Entranced by suns leaf scattered dance,
Diamond shimmers twinkle like neon marquis,
Mesmerizing and comforting and invigorating,
Taking me places far, far away from this time.
So distant the bustle of city street and automobile,
Haze of industry, rubbish strewn waterways,
Man’s inhumanity to man,
The corruption of modernity.
Hearkened back to this simpler place,
Of brooks, pines, the sprawling fern,
Whitetail deer and paddle tailed beaver,
Blue jay and spotted owl,
Amongst these our spirits are freed.

I wish I’d written the line, “over pebbles smooth from run of time”. Bravo!
Thank you very much, I’m glad that you liked it.
Incredible imagery! I was there — standing in that babbling brook, spirit freed by nature’s beauty, wondering why I don’t journey to simpler place and mindset more often… LOVED! Thank YOU!!
Thank you very much. Honestly, I don’t know why I don’t journey to a simpler place more often myself. I am going to make a point of doing so for my own sanity. :)
Excellent and brilliant wordplay.
Thank you WB, it is much appreciated.
You’re welcome
ahhh – the country – or is it the woods? oh how i wish i could live in the country far away from the world and civilization:) yes, i know – be careful what you wish for – oh well – i would love to visit!
I would love it as well. Maybe someday, if and when I can retire. :)
So much freer in nature :)
Oh yes it is, I don’t get out in it often enough for my liking, but I guess that’s life. :)
Do you insist on making me tear up at least once a day? You do? I’m sending squirrels.
I’m so sorry, I don’t deal with crying very well, but I beg you…PLEASE NOT THE SQUIRRELS! After Charles’ squirrel stories I live in fear of these demonic little furry creatures. They are the things of nightmares. :)
Okay I will ask Charles to hold off on the squirrels for now.
I appreciate that, the threat of a squirrel is almost too much to take. :)
great! really liked this.
Thank you very much.
