What a weighty beast this animal regret,
Overshadowing the contemporary with antiquity,
For what purpose but to depress.
This concept of past, present, future inequity.
Each fleeting second paints our past,
Never ending, unavoidable, unchangeable
Causing distress and unhappiness if permitted.
Future bears no less weight,
Harboring angst in it’s face…unknown.
To what end, fear, hesitance, isolation.
No one can foretell what challenges lay ahead,
Destiny is what it will be,
Beyond mortal knowledge and control.
Remaining is present, here and now.
Over this deviant only, do we have influence,
Choice…free will, holds dominant sway.
Present is ours to sculpt into a masterpiece;
Then, in an unfathomable moment it fades into past
Never to be relived, redone, reconsidered.
Energies expended on present are well spent,
Are obtainable, conceivable, justifiable.
Past and future serve only to bleed us;
Sapping mind, body and spirit.
Let present feed the future
And bury the past.

Great poem, Dom! I really love this style.
Thank you very much, the poem kind of evolved on its own as I continued to write, so therefore I give it all the credit. :)
Amazing poem! I love it. Five stars from me. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Cody, that means a lot.
I really love the final lines! Great poem.
Thank you so much. :)
I love that phrase about the “weighty beast”…and letting the present feed the future and bury the past is deep truth…excellent :D My compliments to muse and poet alike ;)
Wow, thank you very much for the really nice comment. You are making me blush. :)

Thank you for linking my poem, I really appreciate that. :)
I love the first line – I fight regret quite a bit. Sometimes I am not even sure that is what it is, but you are right it is a beast!
Thank you Kimberly, I just appreciate the fact that you take the time to read my poems. We all tend to wallow at time, in things we view as regrets, unfortunately there isn’t anything one can do about them so it is best to just let them go. :)
