Hands outstretched across Aisle hallowed
Feigning sincerity and honest concern
Smiles and handshakes, there meaning shallow
Political mutiny from stem to stern
~
Spoils for the taking a populace held hostage
Bends to their whim and their will
With head in the sand like proverbial ostrich
They cater to every tyrant and shill
~
Too blind to notice or choosing not to see
Middle panders fringe left and then right
With no sense of reason what will be will be
Too beat down to put up a fight
~
When self-interest takes over who holds the bag
Its the poor, elderly and non-essential
Defined by the very people who brag
That their views are the most consequential
~
Left with a government who has shuttered their doors
We The People have nowhere to turn
Being held at the mercy of liars and whores
May their pinstripes and wingtips catch fire and burn
~
Honestly looking upon the tragedy we face
On whom does the fault truly lie
Yes, on the rodents that inhabit this place
But also on the uninformed, uninvolved, you and I
~
So when next we sit down and complain of our state
Look inside to what you have done
For without participation, this inevitable fate
Will consume and never be undone

Even just the title alone conjures images.
Thank you Ionia, I am somewhat embarrassed as I used the wrong form of the word “isle”, it should have been “aisle” which I corrected, but I guess the poem got the point across anyway.
I have trouble with that one too. Silly language.
I don’t even really care who’s in charge or what they pass anymore, just get something ruddy bloody done -_- Compromise is (part of) the foundation of democracy.
There’s no enemy to vanquish, Congressmen/women. Just problems to solve. SOLVE ‘EM.
I agree with you, everyone in Washington is to blame, I don’t care who they are and the bottom line is that they just need to fix this problem. Unfortunately though, the art of diplomacy and compromise seems to have been lost on them.
Well said, thoughtful take on this grisly situation.
Thank you very much. :)
WoW!! This is amazing and so beautifully written. A strong message indeed how we need to be part of the solution.
The founding fathers meant for us to take part in our government and not a backseat. Anything we can do to participate would a step in the right direction.
I find the younger generation is starting to wake up…I was so proud when my son went to a protest in freezing cold weather in March…I was right up there with him defending our language rights.
Wow, that is fantastic. It sounds like you have a very courageous and passionate son willing to stand up for what he believes in. You must be very proud of him.
Are we going to end up in a 2nd Revolutionary War simply because our ‘government’ doesn’t know how to govern?
I certainly hope not, but something needs to give. Unfortunately as a country we are so divided that to get anything done we are going to need some kind of drastic change.
I couldn’t agree more that something has to change and it has to change fast. We, the American people are angry.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I sure am upset about what is happening.
Love!x
Thank you very much.:)
I always enjoy reading your socially conscience pieces. Always very thought provoking.
Thank you very much. I just get in a preachy mood sometimes, I guess I was due. :)
