Another birthday
You would have been eighty five
It wasn’t to be
Your dream viewed as dangerous
They took you away too soon

A joyful noise sings in my heart it echoes loud and clear
Always there yet subtle, until I chose to hear
Misery and failure so often self-imposed
To those whose minds are weakened, shuttered tightly closed
We’re here on earth to be happy, harmonious in our life
Free from inner turmoil, free from endless strife
Still hopelessness persists and plagues the hearts of man
As it has always been since our time began
Knowledge is the power that will break this horrid trend
Solving war and poverty will bring it to it’s end
A precious gift to all mankind comes wrapped in simple love
The answer to our problems which came from up above
Or has love always been in us, but hidden by our pride
Afraid to share with others, instead we chose to hide
Convinced we’ve always had it, I give it from the heart
In time it will bring together rather than tear apart
For loving is far easier than the stress of eternal hate
Getting what we give will be our ultimate fate

In the still of night
I lie peacefully in bed
Yet I’m not at rest.
I can feel the energy;
Electric…coursing through me.
Most unusual
This feeling of such power
Came on suddenly.
Its not at all unpleasant–
A feeling I’ve never known.

Sing to me–
WIth gentle breaths
The song I know so well.
To this melody my heart races;
Like the wings of the hummingbird
Beating ever faster to keep pace with your song.
Oh how your crescendo leaves me breathless!
Words can scarcely describe
As I await the triumphant end.
You– the seasoned maestro hold the wand;
Each wave a note closer to the finale.
How masterful you are in your genius,
While I…awestruck,
Am captivated by love.

O calloused heart, how for art thou still beating,
Glances cast at thee thou hath repelled.
Taking flight at thy masters pleading,
How couldst thee in good conscience foretell.
Thou art more beautiful than the rose,
Tho thy thorns art no less deadly.
No more couldst I offer to thee my betrothed,
Than to be forthright of mind and steady.
Nay–this was not enough,
Thy blood and soul hast proved tainted.
Coarse is thine heart when passions in the rough,
Dante’s tragedy to my core hath been painted.
Were thou only more gentle of spirit, more tender and kind,
In my true love thou wouldst bath and no truer love wouldst thou find.

The Village On The Hill By Mary Stubberfield
Prompt by Jeremy Farmer – Jeremy’s Daily Challenge
Picture This Monday 13 January
The charm and the grace of this medieval town,
This village on the hill from fairy tales I’ve found.
My imagination consumes me actively running wild,
I make-believe this is my world, dreaming like a child.
A coffee in the square at a quaint little cafe’,
Shopping and bartering, children at school and play.
The smell of bread baking from the house on the right,
The sound of babies crying as they go to sleep at night.
The hustle and bustle of commuters heading home,
Reuniting with loved ones who’ve spent all day alone.
A kiss on the cheek and a warm and loving embrace,
They sit down to dinner in their pleasant usual place.
Perhaps a night in or an evening on the town,
Spreading out a blanket over the cool and grassy ground.
Staring at the stars in the moonlit summer sky,
The young fall in love as shooting stars go by.
These things that I see in this village on the hill,
Are just my imagination, my mind with pleasure fill.
It sounds so charming, this town from time of old,
With beauty much more precious than diamonds or of gold.

Simply being kind
So incredibly easy
Yet hard for so many
Its easier to be cruel
Than to see good in others
