Finality of life remains elusive to the young,
No concept do they have of how fleeting is time.
We all had our anthems that as teens we had sung
Shouting out defiance in verse and in rhyme.
.
Then age ushers wisdom and illusion fades away
Leaving reality as a cold and harsh fact.
We realize that living must be lived for today
For tomorrow is for fools who will never act.
.
Maybe the young had the idea all along
To live fearless and only for the day.
Never considering what was right or wrong
Instead choosing to do things their own way.
.
Now as our ends draw ever near, we realize what little time we are here,
Do today whatever you can, do not postpone out of shyness or fear.

I wish I knew then what I know now… Such is youth..
In some cases I would agree with that, but in others ignorance is bliss. :)
I love this. It is so true and when we are young we just never think about the end. And I love the fact that you have highlighted that they may just have the right idea – I think you could be right! :-)
I think that at least in my case this is right. As adults we analyze everything we do and then after we have analyzed them to death we don’t act. This is when later in life we have regrets for our inaction. Oh to be young again. :)
Yep… we should definitely start old and get young! :-)
Let’s face it, youth certainly was a lot more fun, at least for me. :)
Wow, that’s nice. The fading illusion part is so hard.
Yes it is, thank you very much. :)
I’m making spaghetti today (Paul Newman’s sauce).
Sounds great, I guess I’m a little late for dinner, but I love leftovers. :)
Yep, I’ve still got leftovers–and peanut butter fudge for dessert.
Sounds delicious although I think I’m a little late as surely you enjoyed them already. :)
There’s always more, Dom–you’re never late to my table! Today I’ll be working on chili–2 pots–and apple spice cakes (2 recipes)….is your mouth watering yet?
It certainly is, I so love chili…yum! :)
Will report back on how it turns out. If only you lived on the actual block, rather than the virtual….!
How true, but I’m sure in any case it will be delicious. :)
Words to live by, Dom. You are a compassionate soul and it comes out in your poetry. :-)
Thank you Jeremy, that is very nice of you to say, it means a lot to me.
