Blurry Eyed I Wake (Tanka)

Blurry eyed I wake
Smell of spring envelops me
Song birds my alarm
Only Heaven could surpass
The perfection of this day

  1. Very nice writing! I either never learned or never cared about remembering all these different styles of writing. I admire those who do it so beautifully! My writing is more like words or thoughts that just fly out of my mouth from my heart/brain. LOL Lovely writing :D

    • It really isn’t important (at least to me) what form poetry comes in. Free verse is just as much poetry as a sonnet or a tanka and no less difficult in my opinion. I do write a lot of free verse as well and as far as I’m concerned poetry is about the message not the form. Keep doing what you are doing, poetry is poetry. :)

      • Oh I know… You just do it all so well :D I would like to be more well rounded, but unfortunately…. that just isn’t the case. LOL :D

      • True… God’s creation. I think my talent must be talking… My mother says I do WAY too much of it… LOL

      • Me too…my kids tell me I talk way too much. They tell me I can’t just give a yes or no answer, I have to give a speech on why I gave the answer. I guess I’m too old to change now so they will just have to live with it. :)
