We claim our culture
The cause of bad behavior
This is no excuse
Still we refuse to let go
Because it’s how it’s always been

It is ironic
Considered a democracy–
Republic really
We treasure our vote
Though in many ways a farce
Given candidates
By parties that are corrupt
These are our choices
Pick from the best of the worst
Either way they always win

Mountains majesty
Purple in the setting sun
A glorious sight
Like the work of a master
Touched by the steadiest hand

Last night I laid quietly by your side.
Only the sound of your breathing could be heard,
Very soft and low over the silence of night.
Enchanted was I by this simple act.
I thought back to when we first met,
So long ago in what seems like a previous life.
Beauty of your body and spirit enthralled me,
Love at first sight captured me,
In the many years since, it has not abated.
Never questioning fate we have become one–
Destined for eternity–as lovers in Heaven.

Fold into my arms
‘Tis were you’ve always belonged
Love is in the stars

A casual glance,
Sending whispers of love and lust,
Eyes averting eyes,
Embarrassed at the thought of capture.
An innocent smile,
Sunlights glimmer off ivory mirror,
Seductive and sensual,
Beckoning an invitation.
A brush of skin,
Accidental yet intentional,
Goosebumps cascading,
Erupting hot and lascivious.
A pounding heart,
Rhythmically offering itself,
Longing to be cradled,
In the impetuous throes of passion.
A tender kiss,
Long and warm on silky lips,
Without so much as a word,
Two become one.
Blindly following
Taking their words as gospel
Some would call it faith
A recipe for failure
When it comes to politics
Is it not our job
To be informed and question
Weeding out their lies
If it’s not then we are doomed
Like so many empires past

We live in a time of paranoia and prejudice,
Danger lurking around every corner,
Evil in strangers faces we pass on the street.
Every act of senseless violence is labeled terrorism,
Can not a murder just be a murder?
Despicable as it is this act has transcended our history.
Must religious affiliation define every murderous act?
Must every act of violence be by the hands of a terrorist?
Vigilance is indeed prudent
Though hypervigilance is divisive.
This world if full of people with mental instability.
Those disillusioned by their circumstances.
Many feeling small or invisible
Seeking attention by the most horrible means.
Christians and Jews are among them
Though they are not so quickly label terrorists.
Our government is in collusion with the media
Spreading fear and hysteria, but to what end?
Perhaps to convince us to willingly forfeit our freedoms
All under the guise of greater protection.
Just realize that once gone
Freedoms lost will be difficult to recapture.

Coolness of morning
Welcomed after summer’s heat
Nature’s refreshment
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Reeling from turmoil
A whirlwind of a day
I’m dazed and confused
So much in so little time
Its time to relax and breathe.
