The Minds Eye

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder,

As does love when souls grow older,

Doth the mind play tricks on the aging eye,

Maybe so, it most surely try.

Portraying the look of younger days,

We overlook the changing grays,

Projecting on the freshness of youth,

Beliefs most surely are the truth.

With utmost certainty a gift this must be,

For lovely today as the first are thee,

Is this a trick or are we but blind,

Left to the mercy of a hopeful mind.

Doth this make us mere fools to our memory,

Would have it no other way if it let me,

Hiding away the ravages of time,

Leaving in life a love most sublime.

Monarch’s Reign

Monarch Butterfly

By D. R. DiFrancesco

~~

Mandarin,white, obsidian glory,

Exquisite majesty soaring,

Graceful feathery flutter,

Whisper silent utter.

~

Fairy tale grace inspired,

Marathon distance flier,

Born in natures swaddle,

Angelic infants toddle.

~

Innocent beauty undercover,

Lives to boast a princely lover,

Short lived romance symphony plays,

‘Til they part on dying days.

~

Crown jeweled natures elegance,

Wings rhythm heavenly trance,

King and Queen exalted royalty,

Nobility commands subjects loyalty.

~

Behold honors modest atonement,

Loveliness granted in its moment,

Rembrandt’s stroke to you would pale,

God’s paragon winged angel you sail.

Beauty of Autumn – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

************************************

Winters icy chill,

Leaves frost on tender branches,

Bidding fall goodnight.

************************************

The wane of summer,

Ignites a rush of color,

Solace to the eyes.

************************************

Howl of autumn wind,

A cyclone of rainbow leaves,

Falls softly to earth.

Love #1 – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Drenched and cold I cry,

Longing to be comforted,

By the warmth of you.

#########################

Do you feel my pain,

Crying out from every pore,

To be understood.

#########################

Echo my hearts beat,

Letting me know we are one,

One heart and one soul.

A Grand Journey

By D. R. DiFrancesco

A quite stream,

Meandering its way over sand and stone,

Shows no beginning,

Leaves no end.

Slowly changing its destiny,

Evolving over eons into something much grander,

Languid yet constant,

Magnificent in its determination.

Housed under an awning of green,

Running a marathon clear and cool,

While aiding stowaways on their epic journey,

Its own destination is uncertain.

It is life giving and life taking,

Giving vitality to both predator and prey,

Survival of the fittest,

Its beauty begets complacency.

Soothing sounds,

Bubbling and lapping as it follows its path ,

Serene and solemn,

Behold!…Natures finest hour.

Insecurity

By D. R. DiFrancesco

If only you could hear my thoughts

The aspirations I have for you

The love I feel for you

Would you be surprised

I have always been an idealist

For myself and those I cherish

Only yearning for the best for you

Taking pride in your little accomplishments

Offering up praise when you interrogate yourself

Anxiety and self-doubt were carefully sheltered from view

Constantly scratching and clawing,

Tearing up your insides in an attempt to escape

You kept them so well hidden

Your inner child cried for approval

I could not help but answer

I’ve always been susceptible to your tears

Drawing you close

Imbibing your insecurities

Reassuring your soul that you are worthy

This is not who you are

Looking in the mirror

You don’t see what I see

You are beautiful

You are unique

You are you

To Her With Love

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Do not look me in the eyes my love,

For my intentions are seldom pure as a dove.

In constant labor to prove my worth are I,

Lest I fall from your grace wither and die.

With a gentle stoke of my cheek you reassure me,

That I am all you ever hoped that I could be.

Still I fret that my offering is not enough,

Insecurity has aged me wrinkled rough.

Yet you look upon me as if youthful and spry,

With a devil-may-care twinkle in your eyes.

And that come hither smile you so oft display,

Leaves me breathless as always in night or day.

Unworthy am I to be held in esteem,

Yet with each day I awake to find this isn’t a dream.

Should this not be what love is about,

I ponder and pray that it’s never in doubt.

Maybe, my love, in all the world you’re unique,

To have fallen for this fool with all others you could seek.

If this somehow by irony be true,

No one else could I have cherished any more than you.

Natural Beauty

Natural Bridge – Located in Natural Bridge, VA
Taken July 8, 2012

A gown of crystal flows at your feet

Unpretentious yet purposeful in its design

Your hard exterior shaped by the elements

Wind and water the artists brush

Veins of brown and green soften your skin

Giving life to those harbored within your walls

For centuries you have been looked upon in awe

A natural wonder bathed in warm colors

Ever evolving in size and beauty

Leaving your mark on lives touched

Splendid, majestic, enchanting

Character only the creator could have imagined

The Star

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Touching heaven with finger-like peaks

Bathed in purple and black

Crags and fissures a sign of her violent past

Yet in these chiseled features there is peace

Calm in her desolation

Joy in her solitude

Rains come, seldom, brief and miniscule

Life  giving none-the-less

Colors erupt skyward from cracks and crevasses

Green, yellow, orange, and purple

Clothing fit for a queen

Floral draped plains bow at her feet

Only the finest for such a star

Sierra Estrella her name

But the cape once so lovely abandons her

Leaving her naked, hard, and rough

No less beautiful in the raw

Standing tall, she resumes her watch

Desert, now void of  an audience unfurls

Bowing blindly to her majesty

Hawks and buzzards her only court

Left to marvel at her magnificence

Her strength, her beauty, her wonder.

The Sierra Estrella Mountain range (estrella in spanish is “star”)  is located southwest of Phoenix Arizona.  My home looks over these mountains and in the years that I have lived here, I have never gotten tired of looking at them.
